Job summary

Center for Justice Innovation seeks an experienced Facilities Manager to oversee hands-on maintenance across multiple NYC sites, including Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Newark, NJ. The role demands strong repair skills and practical problem solving.

Reporting to the Deputy Director for Facilities Operations, you will coordinate repairs, ensure code compliance, manage vendors, and support events while maintaining safety and reliability across all sites.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and 3-5 years' experience in facilities, maintenance and renovations; or a trade license and 3+ years' experience.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of building systems, contractual maintenance, construction and related services.
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and communicate with all levels of management.
  • Valid New York driver's license with fewer than three points on driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to repair ticket requests submitted by Project Sites of the Center.
  • Make basic repairs at project sites including plumbing, lighting, electrical, hardware and carpentry.
  • Regularly inspect, maintain and provide or coordinate repairs, as needed.
  • Communicate facilities needs, maintenance and repairs with supervisor, office managers and project site directors.
  • Maintain code compliance for sites including fire safety and electrical.
  • Oversee site facilities systems (HVAC, security, electrical, plumbing) and vendor management.
  • Exercise independent judgment on facilities needs and costs.
  • Transport equipment, furniture and supplies between sites.
  • Coordinate and supervise office moves and deliveries.
  • Assist Technology with camera installation and wireless access setup.
  • Assist with setup for events and large meetings.
  • Make occasional deliveries.
  • Inspect safety hazards and ensure compliance with laws and standards.
  • Liaise with NYC departments and inspectors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Center's Facilities Operations department is seeking an experienced Facilities Manager. Reporting to the Deputy Director for Facilities Operations, the Facilities Manager is responsible for all aspects of facilities management including preventative and routine maintenance and repairs at designated operating sites in New York City, specifically in Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Newark, NJ. This position is extremely hands on - significant repair skills are required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Respond to repair ticket requests submitted by Project Sites of the Center;
  • Make basic repairs at project sites including but not limited to plumbing fixtures, lighting, electrical, hardware, carpentry, furniture building, drywall patch and paint;
  • Regularly inspect, maintain and provide or coordinate repairs, as needed;
  • Effectively communicate facilities needs, maintenance and repairs with direct supervisor, office managers and project site directors; periodically review contractor work during construction buildouts, renovations and installations;
  • Maintain proper code compliance for sites in areas including fire safety, mechanical, emergency lighting, and electrical;
  • Understand and inspectall site facilities operating systems (HVAC, security, electrical, plumbing, construction contractors) as well as oversee ongoing maintenance and vendor management;
  • Exercise independent judgment and evaluation of facilities needs, consider all reasonable options and associated costs and decide on the optimum course of action;
  • Responsible for transporting equipment, furniture and supply deliveries between sites as needed;
  • Coordinate and supervise office moves, and the delivery of equipment and furniture atdesignated operating sites;
  • Assist the Technology department with computer placement, wireless access point and camera installation and maintenance;
  • Assist with setup for special events, trainings and large meetings at designated operating site;
  • Make occasional deliveries;
  • Inspect and identify any workplace safety hazards,address safety concerns, and ensure compliancewith all local, state, and federal laws, codes, permits, and standards;
  • Act as liaison for external relations with NYC departments (police, fire, sanitation, and building inspectors);
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

The candidate will have a high school diplomaand 3-5years' experience in facilities, maintenance and renovations; or a trade license and 3+ years' experience (e.g. electrician, plumbing, HVAC). Knowledge of all aspects of building systems, contractual maintenance, construction and related services. Excellent organizational and problem solving skills andmeticulous attention to detail required.Mustbe able to effectively meet deadlines. The candidate must have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of management. The candidate will havestrong interpersonal, coaching and administrative skills. A valid New York drivers’ license and fewer than three points on the drivingrecord is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office. Physical demands include the ability to lift 25 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally; standing; walking; reaching; climbing a ladder; and pulling and pushing.

Full time. The standard work week is 35 hours.

Position Location

This position travels to all five boroughs of New York.

Compensation

The compensation range for this position is $66,950 - $82,400 and is commensurate with experience.
