The Salvation Army in Houston, TX seeks a Facilities Manager to lead day-to-day maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, vehicles, and transportation for the Houston Area Command.

You will supervise staff and contracted maintenance, ensure safety and compliance, and manage vehicle operations and property inventories. A strong background in building, electrical, or mechanical trades is required.

Qualifications

  • Two years of coursework in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, or construction trades.
  • Five years of progressively responsible maintenance and repair experience for commercial buildings and grounds.
  • One to two years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, supervise and participate in day-to-day general maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, vehicles and transportation.
  • Supervise, monitor and evaluate contracted maintenance services for effectiveness.
  • Ensure equipment remains in proper working order and in compliance with procedures and safety standards.
  • Operate Salvation Army vehicle to pick up or deliver materials.
  • Maintain inventory of Salvation Army property.

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization,has an opening fora Facilities Manager for the Houston Area Command, located in Houston, Texas.

Job Summary

Plans, schedules, supervises and participates in the day-to-day general maintenance and repair of the buildings, grounds, vehicles and transportation; plans, schedules, assigns and supervises the work of subordinate personnel; supervises, monitors and evaluates all contracted maintenance services for effectiveness; ensures all equipment remains in proper working order and compliance with standard operating procedures and safety standards; participates in more difficult repair work; operates a Salvation Army vehicle to pick-up and/or deliver materials; maintains an inventory of all Salvation Army property.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the methods, materials, tool, and practices used in at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades. Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, construction, and air conditioning equipment. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved. Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment used in the trades involved. Ability to ensure the proper maintenance, repair, and security of buildings, grounds, and related equipment. Ability to supervise, prioritize, motivate, monitor, and evaluate the work of subordinate maintenance employees. Ability to negotiate, supervise, and monitor contract maintenance services. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent, with two years course work from a vocational or technical school in heating, ventilation, and air condition, plumbing, electrical, and construction trades, and Five years progressively responsible experience performing skilled maintenance and repair work for commercial buildings and grounds, with one to two years supervisory experience, Or Any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certifications: Valid State Drivers License, Valid Class B Passenger CDL (Preferred), State Certified HVAC License (or ability to obtain)

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.

Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints. Ability to drive a vehicle safely and in compliance of all laws and regulations. Duties require frequent periods of physical mobility including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, stooping, squatting, and lifting. Physical duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting. Extensive amount of physical effort required associated with lifting, moving, and carrying heavy objects (up to 100 lbs.) frequently. Working Conditions:Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
