***MUST HAVE MANUFACTURING EXPERIENCE***
About the Role

A fifth-generation, family-owned food manufacturer with over 100 years in business is looking for an experienced Facilities Engineer to take ownership of facility engineering at one of its large-scale, highly automated Chicago manufacturing campuses. This is a newly created role designed to bring dedicated facilities engineering leadership to a complex, busy facility. The title is Facilities Engineer, not maintenance, and that is intentional. This role is designed to attract manufacturing engineers who understand how large industrial facilities operate and can manage the full scope of facility systems, contractors, and infrastructure.

About the Company

One of the most storied names in food manufacturing, this fifth-generation family-owned company has been operating for over 100 years and shows no signs of slowing down. They continue to grow through acquisitions and new product development, investing in cutting-edge facilities and processes while maintaining the culture and values that have made them an employer of choice for decades. People who work here describe it as a company that treats employees like individuals and genuinely invests in their success.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all facility engineering functions including stationary engineering, HVAC, boilers, building maintenance, and building systems
  • Manage on-site contractors including electricians, cement contractors, and other trades; ensure all work meets facility standards, timelines, and safety requirements
  • Supervise stationary engineers and support welder certification requirements across the facility
  • Oversee wastewater treatment systems on-site and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
  • Develop and manage capital project budgets, scopes, and schedules for facility improvements and infrastructure upgrades
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, OSHA requirements, and safety standards
  • Drive preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all facility systems
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to minimize downtime and support production
  • Identify opportunities for facility improvements and lead implementation of upgrades and modifications
  • Maintain accurate documentation including drawings, specifications, permits, and compliance records
Requirements
  • BS/BA in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of stationary engineering or maintenance certifications, or 5 or more years of facilities engineering leadership experience in a manufacturing environment will be considered
  • Stationary Engineer's license preferred or willing to obtain it
  • 7+ years of plant or facilities engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is required; must come from manufacturing, not commercial or residential facilities
  • Hands-on background with facility systems including HVAC, boilers, electrical distribution, and related infrastructure
  • Experience managing on-site contractors across multiple trades
  • Relevant certifications and licenses are valued heavily alongside or in place of a degree
  • Welding certification knowledge and experience overseeing welder qualification programs is a plus
  • Strong project management skills including budgeting, scheduling, and contractor coordination
  • Food or CPG manufacturing experience is not required; strong candidates from other industrial manufacturing environments are welcome
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across departments and with diverse teams
Compensation and Benefits
  • $140,000 to $160,000 base salary plus bonus based on education and experience
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Pension plan
  • Long-term and short-term disability
  • Fifth-generation, family-owned company with over 100 years of stability and a genuine commitment to its people

This is a role for someone who takes ownership of a facility, knows how to manage complex systems and contractors, and wants to be a key part of a manufacturing operation that has stood the test of time.
