Job summary

Aegis is seeking an experienced Building/Plant Engineer to oversee the facility, building systems, and maintenance operations at a large 24-hour manufacturing plant near Chicago.

This hands-on leadership role will serve as the facility manager for the plant, directing maintenance and coordinating with vendors to support continuous production. A background in manufacturing and union environments is highly valued, with licenses pursued if needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in facility, building, or plant engineering/maintenance.
• Hands-on experience with water/wastewater systems, filtration, HVAC, and plumbing.
• Experience leading maintenance personnel.
• Experience managing outside contractors.
• Manufacturing experience required.
• Union environment experience preferred.
• Ability to obtain stationary engineer, wastewater operator, and underground storage tank operator licenses if not held.

Aegis is partnered with a well-established food manufacturer with a long history in the Chicago area and a highly tenured workforce. They are seeking an experienced Building / Plant Engineer/ Facilities Manager to oversee the overall facility, building systems, and maintenance operations at their large 24-hour manufacturing plant.

This is a hands on leadership position that will essentially serve as the facility manager for the plant.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee water/wastewater and filtration systems
• Manage HVAC, plumbing, high-pressure steam, and general building infrastructure
• Lead a small team of mechanics and oversee stationary engineers
• Coordinate third-party vendors and contractors for repairs, installations, and capital projects
• Manage ongoing facility maintenance and building improvements
• Support a 24-hour manufacturing operation and respond to facility needs as necessary

Requirements:

• 5+ years of facility, building, or plant engineering/maintenance experience
• Strong hands‑on experience with water/wastewater systems, filtration, HVAC, and plumbing
• Previous experience leading maintenance personnel
• Experience managing outside contractors and vendors
• Manufacturing experience required
• Union environment experience strongly preferred
• Food/beverage, pharmaceutical, medical device, or chemical manufacturing experience is a plus
• Ability to obtain required stationary engineer, wastewater operator, and underground storage tank operator licenses if not already held

This is a full‑time, on‑site opportunity near Midway Airport in Chicago with compensation up to $160K plus a 5–10% discretionary bonus.
