Job summary

The Church of the Cross Bluffton seeks a Part-Time Facilities Manager to oversee the Historic Campus and Chapel, ensuring safety, functionality, and a welcoming environment for worship, pastoral care, counseling, and parish life.

You will lead preventive maintenance, vendor coordination, small repairs, and stewardship of historic and modern facilities, with inspections of multiple buildings and on-site vendor liaison, budget-conscious service delivery, and emergency readiness.

Qualifications

  • Experience in facilities management, building maintenance, or trades work (3+ years preferred).
  • Working knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) and general repair techniques.
  • Ability to coordinate vendors and manage multiple small projects.
  • Familiarity with historic building care preferred.
  • Alignment with the Christian mission and values of The Church of the Cross.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a campus facilities plan appropriate for historic structures and modern chapel systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections of all buildings: Church, Parish Hall, Mechanical Building, Counseling Center, Curate Apartment, and Chapel.
  • Identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and emerging issues requiring vendor support.
  • Perform minor repairs (non-licensed) including basic carpentry, painting, fixture replacement, and small plumbing fixes.
  • Coordinate HVAC filter changes, thermostat schedules, and seasonal system checks.
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for licensed vendors (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofing, pest control).
  • Schedule vendor visits, accompany contractors when needed, and verify completion of work.
  • Ensure cost-effective service delivery aligned with parish budget and standards.
  • Oversee custodial services for the Historic Campus and Chapel.
  • Monitor cleanliness, readiness for worship, and special event setups.
  • Coordinate grounds maintenance, including landscaping, irrigation checks, and seasonal needs.
  • Assist the Senior Associate Rector in forecasting maintenance needs and annual capital planning.
  • Track expenses for small repairs, supplies, and vendor invoices.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities appropriate for a part-time scope.
  • Maintain readiness for weather events, power outages, and building emergencies.
  • Ensure fire extinguishers, exit lighting, and safety devices remain compliant.
  • Support emergency response protocols for both campuses.
  • Protect the integrity of historic structures through appropriate maintenance methods.
  • Coordinate preservation-sensitive repairs and ensure vendors follow historic-property guidelines.

Job Summary

The Part-Time Facilities Manager provides direct, hands-on oversight of the Historic Campus and the Chapel at Cross Schools. This role ensures that both campuses remain safe, functional, well-maintained, and welcoming for worship, pastoral care, counseling, and parish life. The position focuses on preventive maintenance, vendor coordination, small-scale repairs, and stewardship of historic and modern facilities. Key Responsibilities
  • Facilities Management – Historic Campus & Chapel
