Position Summary
The Facilities & Safety Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective operation of offices, laboratories, cleanrooms, critical utilities, building systems, and support infrastructure. This position leads facilities operations, safety and environmental programs, contractor management, capital projects, hazardous waste activities, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance while supporting manufacturing, engineering, and research operations.
- Manage office, laboratory, and cleanroom facilities, including HVAC, FFUs, chilled water, duct heaters, process cooling water, chillers, make-up air, DI water, liquid nitrogen, compressed dry air, helium supply, acid waste neutralization, pumps, vacuum systems, exhaust fans, equipment hookups, and facility monitoring systems.
- Develop and maintain preventive maintenance programs, operating procedures, equipment records, utility logs, and facility as-built documentation. Coordinate troubleshooting, repairs, planned shutdowns, and emergency response.
- Support cleanroom and laboratory operations, contamination-control requirements, equipment installations, utility connections, process changes, facility expansions, and site improvements.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce company safety and health programs, policies, procedures, training, inspections, risk assessments, emergency preparedness, incident response, corrective actions, and regulatory compliance.
- Manage chemical storage, hazardous waste disposal, wastewater and environmental records, permits, regulatory reporting, exposure monitoring, medical surveillance, and environmental/safety consultant coordination.
- Plan and manage capital projects, renovations, utility upgrades, construction, and facility repairs, including scope, budget, risk, schedule, safety, and project closeout.
- Manage contractors, consultants, service providers, janitorial services, pest control, landlord coordination, scopes of work, contracts, purchase requests, invoices, and performance.
- Manage facilities and safety budgets, support capital planning, report key performance indicators, and identify opportunities to improve reliability, safety, service, and cost efficiency.
- Manage building security and access control, fire alarm systems, cleanroom garments and consumables, office moves, and related site services.
- Provide leadership and work direction to Facilities Technicians and oversight of contractors and service providers.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, industry certifications, military experience, and directly related work experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in facilities operations, facilities engineering, maintenance management, environmental health and safety, manufacturing support, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience supporting semiconductor, nanotechnology, chemical manufacturing, cleanroom, laboratory, or other advanced manufacturing environments strongly preferred.
- Experience managing contractors, facility projects, maintenance programs, safety or environmental programs, and/or technical personnel preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of industrial building systems, critical utilities, cleanroom support systems, occupational safety, hazardous materials, environmental compliance, fire protection, and emergency preparedness.
- Ability to manage urgent facility issues, projects, compliance requirements, budgets, contractors, and competing priorities with minimal disruption to operations.
- Strong troubleshooting, project management, communication, documentation, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and Teams.
