Job summary

UWC-USA in Montezuma, NM seeks a Maintenance Worker to keep campus facilities in good repair and operating order. You will perform minor to moderate repairs on buildings, systems, and service equipment, and operate water pumping, storage, and distribution systems as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains property and ensures facilities are in good repair and working order.
  • Performs minor to moderate repairs to buildings, facilities, and service equipment.
  • Operates water pumping, storage, and distribution systems and related equipment.
  • Assists in maintaining boiler, plumbing, electrical, and construction systems.
  • Be on call and work weekends/holidays as needed, with potential swing shifts and overtime.
  • Inspects campus for damage or safety hazards and documents work orders.

Job description

Purpose: Maintains property and ensures that facilities are kept in good repair and working order. Under direction, performs minor to moderate repairs to buildings, facilities, and service equipment. Operates the collection and distribution systems, pump and storage facilities, all other related equipment, and performs all other work as may be assigned.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

  1. Performs minor to moderate repairs to building fixtures
  2. Performs minor plumbing repairs in assembling, installing, and repairing pipes.
  3. Assists in maintaining boiler
  4. Maintains & repairs minor electrical malfunctions and installs new equipment
  5. Acts as a carpenter in the alteration, repair, and maintenance of buildings
  6. Maintains tools and machinery in good condition and uses all tools carefully and as instructed
  7. Completes work orders for painting and building repairs, indicating materials used and time involved
  8. Assists in maintaining and operates water pumping, storage, and distribution systems
  9. Assists in maintaining wastewater pumping and collection systems, and water and sewer maintenance equipment
  10. Does a walk through of campus buildings and inspects for damage and/or safety hazards
  11. Replaces bulbs and performs touch up painting
  12. Be on call, work shifts, weekends and holidays as needed. May involve swing shift work up until 10p
  13. Work overtime as needed.
  14. Does snow removal as needed
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High School graduation or GED, plus one (1) year of providing maintenance services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Flexible and eager to work.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to work with hands and to work in mechanically oriented situations following supervisor instructions.
  • General knowledge of various types of equipment used in building trades.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision, given proper instructions.
  • Ability to do heavy lifting.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and construction equipment.
  • Ability to read and write and to follow detailed written instructions.
  • Must have valid state motor vehicle drivers license
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
