Job Description

The University of Southern Maine is seeking applicants for Custodians CL2 on both the Portland and Gorham campuses.

Work Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week). Our shifts are flexible and typically are consistent week to week.

Pay and Benefits: Pay is $18.42/hour (+$0.80 per hour shift differential for shifts the majority of which fall between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.). This is an essential position with the expectation that incumbents report to work on snow/storm days and other days when campus is closed.

Responsibilities:

  • Cleanand disinfecta variety of areas on campus including restrooms, breakrooms, common areas and classrooms.
  • Assistwith event set-ups and take-downs.
  • Assistwith trash collection and disposal.
  • Responsible for clearing snow at building entrances/maintaining clear entrances.
  • Unlockand securebuildings.
  • Reportmaintenance issues and equipment failures as appropriate.
  • Providerecommendations for corrective action on areas that need improvement.
  • Respondto customer concerns with efficiency and respect.
  • Workeffectively and cooperatively with members of the Facilities Management team, students, faculty & staff, external vendors and customers and the broader USM community.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to custodial team members.
  • Other duties as reasonably assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), or international degree equivalent.
  • At least one year of custodial or janitorial experience.
  • Ability to work independently, follow verbal and written instructions, and safety procedures.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying equipment and materials up to 50 pounds frequently and/or exert 20 pounds of force to move objects; and must be capable of standing for long periods of time and flexible enough for bending and reaching.
