Job summary

The University of Southern Maine is seeking a reliable Facilities Maintenance Worker CL1 for Custodial Services. This part-time role (20 hours/week) is split between the Portland and Gorham campuses, including a fixed 8-hour Sunday shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Job description

The University of Southern Maine is looking for a motivated and dependable team member who is committed to providing a clean and healthy environment for our campuses. We are currently accepting applications for a part-time (20 hours per week) Facilities Maintenance Worker CL1 in our Custodial Services department. This position will be split between the Portland and Gorham campuses.

Work Schedule

This position includes a required 8-hour shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) on Sundays in Gorham. The remaining 12 hours (for a total of 20 hours per week) can be scheduled flexibly between 6:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. A consistent weekly schedule is expected, but the university will work with the selected candidate to determine the specific days and times.

Pay and Benefits

Pay is $17.80 per hour. We offer a competitive benefits package for eligible part-time employees that includes:

Responsibilities
  • The focus of this position is on trash and recycling disposal. Other duties include general custodial, such as cleaning and disinfecting a variety of areas on campus such as stairways, restrooms, classrooms and common areas.
  • Responds to work orders and provides excellent customer service.
  • Assists with event set-ups and take-downs.
  • Unlocks and secures buildings.
  • Works effectively and cooperatively with members of the Facilities Management team, University administration, the campus community, and external clients and customers.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) or international degree equivalent.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials up to 50 pounds frequently and/or exert 20 pounds of force to move objects; and must be capable of standing for extended periods of time and flexible enough for bending and reaching.
