Job summary

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Worker to perform maintenance and preventative tasks on parish buildings, equipment, and grounds to ensure safety for staff and visitors. This full-time role requires evening and weekend work.

Responsibilities include event setups, cleaning, security, and routine maintenance across campus. Must lift up to 50 pounds, hold a valid driver’s license, and pass background checks plus Safe Environment Training.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must speak and understand English.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must complete and clear a background check.
• Must successfully complete Safe Environment Training.
• Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
• Must work flexible hours including evenings, holidays and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintenance of parish facilities and off-site buildings.
• Ensure buildings are clean before and after events.
• Set up for special events (chairs, tables, etc.).
• Ensure buildings are secure when not in use.
• Perform minor and preventive maintenance as needed.
• Empty and clean trash and recycling containers.
• Restock restroom supplies.
• Clean floors and surfaces in parish facilities.
• Assist with parish fiesta setup and Christmas light displays.
• Decorate Church for liturgical seasons and events.
• Perform repairs/maintenance on campus facilities, equipment, and outdoor areas.
• Cover maintenance department vacations/absences.
• Other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Facilities Manager

Employment Type: Full-time (approx. 40 hour/week)

FLSA Status: Non-exempt; hourly

Pay Rate: $19/hr. – $21/hr.

Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Worker helps to provide adequate maintenance and preventative maintenance on all equipment, buildings, grounds and vehicles to ensure safety to all persons, including staff and visitors, and to extend the life and appearance of these items. This position requires evening, Saturday and/or Sunday work.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist with maintenance of all parish facilities and off-site buildings.
• Assures that all buildings are clean prior and after events.
• Set up for special events (e.g. chairs, tables, and other event requirements).
• Assures that buildings are secure when not in use.
• Performs minor and preventive maintenance as necessary.
• Empty and clean all trash and recycling containers.
• Restock supplies in all restrooms (paper products, soap).
• Clean, mop and wax floors inside bathrooms, Parish Hall, Main Church and other rooms as needed.
• Clean Parish office as directed.
• Assist with general set-up for annual parish fiesta.
• Assist with setting up of Christmas light displays outside of church building.
• Assist with decorating of Church for liturgical seasons and events.
• Work on repairs/maintenance to all campus facilities, equipment and outdoor areas.
• Cover maintenance department vacation/absences as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must have knowledge of procedures, practices, tools, and equipment used in maintenance.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to lift and stack over 50 pounds.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, reach, and climb ladders.
• Must be able to make judgement calls related to emergency and safety matters.
• Must have the ability to work outdoors in changing weather.
• Must be self-sufficient and be able to perform outlined tasks with little or no supervision.
• Must have the ability to work with other staff.

Education & Experience

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must speak and understand English.
• Must complete and clear a background check.
• Must successfully complete Safe Environment Training
• Work includes both indoor and outdoor, with mild exposure to weather extremes.
• Must be able to drive a manual transmission pickup truck.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays and weekends.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to bend, stoop, squat, reach, and climb ladders. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the Parish campus and school facility. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations. The employee must be able to perform moderate to heavy manual labor, including frequent bending, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
