Job summary

Community Connections in Washington, DC is seeking a General Maintenance Facilities Worker to perform maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of equipment and facilities. You will handle plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and building systems tasks to ensure a safe, functional environment.

The role involves receiving work orders, planning repairs, and executing routine maintenance while adhering to safety standards. Strong candidate must have 2+ years in maintenance and excellent customer service.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years direct experience in Maintenance or Facilities support.
  • Knowledge of general carpentry and repairs.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels.
  • Ability to prioritize projects and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and identifies equipment or machines in need of repair.
  • Maintains physical space, ensuring a safe, clean, and functional environment.
  • Receives, manages, and processes work order requests; ensures problems are resolved quickly.
  • Troubleshoots issues to determine necessary repairs.
  • Plans repair work using building’s blueprints or equipment manual as needed.
  • Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician (e.g., drywall, plumbing, electrical, painting, doors).
  • Performs routine maintenance on building systems.
  • Ensures safety standards are followed throughout facility.
  • Applies or assists with environmental permits.
  • Cleans and assists with upkeep of the facilities.
  • Orders supplies and materials needed for repairs.
  • Moves furniture and equipment between areas.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
