Job summary

Bell County in Central Texas seeks a facilities maintenance worker to perform building, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and carpentry tasks for county facilities. You will inspect, repair, and maintain systems, respond to emergencies, and keep detailed work records.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of relevant maintenance experience, plus a valid driver’s license and English language proficiency.

Qualifications

• Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent and two (2) years of experience in performing building, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, alarm systems and minor construction maintenance and repairs; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
• Must be able to read, write and speak the English Language.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
• Performs complex maintenance and diagnostic services for carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and similar systems maintenance, repair or construction of county facilities or structures.
• Estimates and procures compatible materials and tools required to perform maintenance, repair and construction-related functions.
• Installs, maintains and repairs of surveillance systems.
• Maintains appropriate work records and documents, including work orders and formal and informal inspections.
• Prepares and processes daily work reports, inspection reports, work orders, requisitions, sketches, etc.
• Plans the layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
• Inspects facilities to identify maintenance and repair requirements and priorities.
• Respond to 24 hr. emergency and non-emergency service calls, diagnoses problems and makes minor repairs.
• Performs related work as required.
• Adequate attendance is required.
• Required to work in a detention facility performing facility maintenance.
