RTX, the world’s largest aerospace and defense company, is seeking a facilities mechanic to maintain and repair critical infrastructure across a 2 million square foot site in Chesapeake, VA. The role focuses on HVAC, chilled water systems, pumps, motors, and building automation controls.

Ideal candidates will have 4+ years of related experience, blueprints literacy, and OSHA knowledge. The position requires 12-hour shifts to support around-the-clock operations and may include weekends or nights

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED or AA/AS with 4+ years of relevant experience.
• 4+ years’ experience in HVAC, Building Automation Controls, pumps, motors, valves and actuators.
• Experience reading blueprints/schematics and OSHA regulations for safe work practices.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot and repair infrastructure systems including HVAC, chilled water distribution, pumps, motors, valves, and building automation controls.
• Perform as a first-night shift compressed facilities mechanic supporting plant operations.
• Work 12-hour shifts to cover the site 24/7 from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and provide coverage during days/nights/weekends when needed.

What You Will Do

• The position focus will be to maintain, troubleshoot and repair all infrastructure systems including HVAC, Chilled Water Distribution, pumps, motors, and frontend Building automation controls.
• In this role you need to perform as a first night shift compressed facilities mechanic supporting plant operations.
• This role requires the ability to work 12-hour shifts in order to cover the site 24/7 from 6:00 am until 6:00 pm.
• Provide coverage and support for the facility days/nights/weekends if business, schedule, or emergency situations arise.

What You Will Learn

• How to manage facilities operations in a 2 Million square foot manufacturing building; gain technical experience working alongside senior mechanics and contractors and learn to troubleshoot large infrastructure equipment and controls.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Typically requires a HS Diploma or GED or AA/AS degree (or another 2 year post HS training) and 4 or more years of relevant experience
• 4+ years’ experience in (three or more) of the following areas:
  • HVAC and Building Automation Controls
  • Maintenance of pumps, motors, valve and actuator operation
  • Troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems
  • Refrigeration cycles
• 2+ years’ experience reading and interpreting blueprints and complex schematics as well as OSHA regulations and standards for Safe work practice, hazard assessment and mitigation.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Computer experience in the function and application of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as well as common office technology including MS office suite of software and other Web based tools.
• Experience in Electrical, VFD's and motor controls and leading team members
• PLC controls troubleshooting
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts

The salary range for this role is 43,400 USD - 82,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
