Job summary

Isle of Wight County, VA is seeking a maintenance assistant to help uphold the upkeep of county buildings, fixtures, and equipment. The role includes carpentry, painting, plumbing tasks, and general maintenance under the supervision of the lead maintenance worker.

Responsibilities include preventative maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems, replacing lighting and fixtures, and assisting with event setups, potentially requiring overtime or weekend work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 6 months related maintenance experience or equivalent training.
• Knowledge of proper cleaning and maintenance methods and procedures.
• Ability to follow safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist in light carpentry work, repair plumbing fixtures and systems, and replace light bulbs and filters.
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical and electrical systems within County buildings.
• Perform general building maintenance including painting, replacing lighting fixtures, windows and doors, and flushing drains and gutters.
• Assist other maintenance workers and take direction from the lead maintenance worker.
• Assist in setup of special events which may require overtime and/or weekend work hours.
• Observe all safety policies and perform tasks in a safe and healthy manner.
• Perform other assigned duties.
