Job summary

Qualifications

  • Education: None required. Graduation from high school or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience and training: Two years of work experience in performing a variety of building maintenance repair work or its equivalent.
  • Knowledge of: Basic practices and methods in repair of buildings; safety procedures; common tools in carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical trades.
  • Ability to: Use common tools, perform minor repairs, read sketches/plans, follow instructions, perform heavy lifting.
  • Merit or Civil Service: Must meet minimum qualification requirements and be scheduled for interview.
  • Citizenship and residence: US citizen/national or eligible to work in US; intend to reside in Hawaii.

Responsibilities

  • The function of the Facilities and Maintenance Department is to provide continued and safe operation of all utility services; maintains safety of the building and utilities; inspects buildings, equipment, and grounds and schedules preventive maintenance.
  • Perform routine and repetitive duties in several trades; assist skilled workers; may work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and standby duty.
  • May be scheduled for standby duty and requires adherence to safety regulations.
