Job summary

The City of Portland's Parks & Recreation Bureau is hiring two Facilities Maintenance Technicians to keep parks facilities safe, functional, and reliable citywide. You will perform preventive maintenance and repairs across HVAC, lighting, and building systems, respond to urgent failures, and support daily operations in various park facilities.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of building/facility automated control systems and components.
  • Experience performing building maintenance and repairs including scheduling and preventive maintenance inspections.
  • Experience performing installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Experience performing repair and replacement of facilities electrical components.
  • Experience managing facility maintenance hazards and safety precautions, including OSHA standards while working autonomously.

  • Inspect, diagnose, service, and troubleshoot various systems and equipment.
  • Check equipment for glitches and inconsistencies.
  • Repair defective components to avoid delays in operation.
  • Install and assemble new machines.
  • Respond to work orders.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, replace, or install mechanical, alarm, and electrical systems.
  • Assist in annual inspections of fire suppression and alarm systems as well as assisting to correct any outstanding deficiencies.
  • Ensure operational efficiency, safety, and comfort in diverse environments.

The City of Portland is recruiting to fill current and future Facilities Maintenance Technician-CL vacancies across the city.

Facilities Maintenance Technician-CL's perform work in the following bureaus: Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) and the Bureau of Environmental Services (BES). Current vacancies is located in Portland Parks & Recreation.

Job Appointment: Regular, Full-Time

Work Schedule:

  • Portland Parks & Recreation: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • Work schedules may vary based on operational needs, and some assignments may require occasional Saturday shifts. After probation, work schedule change can be discussed.

Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) - Facilities Maintenance Technician (Two Positions)

Join our team at the City of Portland's Parks & Recreation Bureau. We are hiring two Facilities Maintenance Technicians to help maintain the safety, functionality, and longevity of parks facilities across the city.

In this role, you will perform ongoing maintenance and repairs on heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, lighting and electrical outlets, and a wide range of building equipment. You will apply your mechanical and technical expertise to identify issues that could impair system performance and complete timely repairs to keep facilities operating smoothly.

You will also respond to urgent equipment failures, restoring operations as quickly as possible. Additional responsibilities include a variety of building maintenance tasks requiring diverse mechanical skills. Technicians use mobile devices to monitor HVAC equipment and manage maintenance schedules, and may also provide training or guidance to an apprentice.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Knowledge of building/facility automated control systems and components.
  2. Experience performing building maintenance and repairs including scheduling and performing preventative maintenance inspections, repair of interior and exterior hardware.
  3. Experience performing installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems, such as the operation of chillers, boilers, fan systems, and pumps.
  4. Experience performing repair and replacement of facilities electrical components.
  5. Experience managing facility maintenance hazards and safety precautions, including applicable OSHA standards while working autonomously.
Applicants must also possess
  • A current Limited Maintenance Electrical (LME) license or higher Oregon electrical license.
  • A valid state driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
Although not required, you may have one or more of the following
  • Refrigerant 608 certificate
  • Class three boilers license
  • Backflow Assembly Testers and Cross Connection Specialist Certification
  • Direct Digital Control/Building Automation systems training and certification
  • Brazing certification
  • Fire Alarm training and certification
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, refrigerant/evacuation/recharge tools, carpentry, and basic machine tools.
