Job summary

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI), is seeking a Maintenance Repairer in Independence, IA. This full-time role supports painting, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, grounds care, vehicle operations, and boiler/power plant equipment during heating season.

The position is Monday–Friday with day/evening shifts. A background check is required.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time work experience in two or more recognized building and mechanical trades.
• Willingness to complete a background check as part of the application.
• Current and continuous experience in state executive branch may be required.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance work including painting, plastering, carpentry, and assist with plumbing and HVAC systems.
• Assist with electrical systems, communication systems, vehicle operations, snow removal, grounds care, and landscaping.
• Operate power plant equipment during heating season, including boilers and generators.
