Job summary

Garmin Ltd. is seeking a full-time Facilities Maintenance Technician Apprentice at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area.

You will assist the Maintenance team with basic repairs across Manufacturing and Warehousing, and help keep Garmin aircraft appearances and facilities well-maintained. Ideal candidates have a High School diploma and several years of related experience, familiarity with electrical, HVAC, plumbing basics, and a commitment to safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
• Experience operating machinery in maintenance settings.
• Basic knowledge of machine automation systems.
• Fundamental safe manufacturing/warehouse operation knowledge.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and push/pull 200 lbs., climb ladders and walk long distances.

Responsibilities

• Assist Maintenance Technicians with daily basic maintenance and preventive tasks.
• Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical equipment; assist with repairs as needed.
• Maintain daily maintenance logs and records for documentation.
• Follow supervisor plans and provide regular status updates.
• Use power and hand tools in accordance with safety rules.
• Assist with handling locks and tags (LOTO) and safety compliance.
• Help manage spare parts inventory and coordinate with contractors.

Job description

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Facilties Maintenance Technician Apprentice at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting the Maintenance team in basic repair of a variety of equipment in Manufacturing, Warehousing/Shipping, and other facilities. This role also maintains appearance of Garmin aircraft in some locations.

Essential Functions

• Assist Maintenance Technicians with daily basic maintenance and preventative maintenance and/or work orders in electrical, HVAC/Refrigerationand plumbing to support Operations
• Assist with basic preventative maintenance, inspection and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment for defects and assist with repairs as necessary
• Maintain maintenance records by completing daily logs, recordings and pertinent information necessary for documentation
• Execute plans made by the supervisor or mentor while providing regular status updates
• Utilize power & hand tools in accordance with safety rules and regulations
• Successfully demonstrates knowledge of E-Scrap, recycling collection and disposal, conveyor system preventative maintenance, manufacturing production equipment preventative maintenance, and housekeeping
• Assist outside contractors, when necessary, in the maintenance of the physical plant
• Assist with controlling expenditures
• Maintain appropriate spare parts inventory for equipment
• Completely execute Lock Out/Tag Out of equipment
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and push/pull 200 lbs., climb ladders, squat, kneel, crawl, stand an entire shift and walk long distances throughout the facility in performance of essential functions
• Cleanliness zone area requirements: This position requires Garmin provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear) to be always worn for an entire shift to minimize the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and meet specified standards.

Basic Qualifications

• High School Diploma AND a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
• Previous machinery operation experience
• Must demonstrate basic knowledge of machine automation systems
• Must demonstrate basic knowledge of safe manufacturing /warehouse operation
• Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrated strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting aptitude
• Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and push/pull 200 lbs., climb ladders, squat, kneel, crawl, stand an entire shift and walk long distances throughout the facility in performance of essential functions

Desired Qualifications

• Technical school certification in electronics, industrial or maintenance technology or related facilities degree
• Refrigerant license
