Job summary

Avera Orthopedic Hospital-Sioux Falls is seeking a dedicated facilities technician to perform inspection, maintenance, and repair of hospital buildings and equipment. The role includes carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC tasks to keep the facility safe and functional.

You will manage preventative maintenance, respond to emergencies, and coordinate with contractors. The position offers an afternoon shift with on-call rotation and a $1000 sign-on bonus for qualifying applicants.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3–6 months related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Driver's license issued by the Licensing Board.

Responsibilities

• Performs building inspections, replacing parts, cleaning, and overseeing heating and plumbing, outdoor grounds & landscaping, and snow & ice removal to ensure a safe facility environment.
• Performs basic carpentry and maintenance work for the facility and fixtures, including painting, remodeling, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.
• Performs routine repair and maintenance on machines and equipment such as beds, wheelchairs, kitchen equipment, furniture, and office devices on a scheduled basis or as requested.
• Monitors and maintains equipment that supplies steam or chilled water to air handling systems and sterilizers, among others.
• Verifies work orders, prioritizes tasks, and keeps areas neat and orderly.
• Maintains a preventative maintenance program with PM schedules and logs.
• Responds to facility emergencies, participates in drills, and communicates safety concerns to leadership, ensuring PPE and safety policy compliance.
• Handles waste in line with state and OSHA guidelines, keeping records of regulations and medical waste.
• Collaborates with contractors and vendors to ensure timely, thorough completion of contracted work.
• May perform off-site errands, patient transports, deliveries, minor housekeeping, inventory, and parts ordering as needed.
