Job summary

Caldera’s Arts Center in Sisters, OR seeks a dedicated Facilities Maintenance Technician to maintain the facility, assets and equipment, supporting Caldera programs and rentals.

The role requires multi-trade skills, physical stamina, and the ability to lift up to 100 lbs, with on-site work at Caldera’s Arts Center and occasional travel to the Portland metro area four times annually. This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits.

  • Dexterity to use hands and fingers and the ability to sit, walk, stand, kneel, or bend for long periods of time.
  • Ability to regularly lift 50 lbs and occasionally lift 100 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Caldera’s facilities and land to support Caldera’s program needs, renters’ needs, and to meet government standards.
  • Coordinate operation and maintenance of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, lighting, plumbing, boiler systems, sprinkler system, water heaters, etc.
  • Carry out daily facilities and land inspections.
  • Schedule and oversee work performed by subcontractors in collaboration with the Director of Operations and Property Manager.
  • Maintain facilities maintenance policies and documentation for continuity.
  • Work with team members on maintenance, repair, grounds keeping, and vehicle repairs.
  • Support Rentals and Camp Residencies in coordination with Hospitality and Programs teams.
  • Ensure facilities are stocked with supplies.
  • Assist in event preparation and execution and annual inspections.
  • Respond to on-call requests during scheduled hours.

Our Youth Program provides students from Portland and Central Oregon with long-term relationships with caring adults, which nurtures individual creativity, beginning in sixth grade and continuing into young adulthood.

Caldera has a $2.6M budget, a 15-member board, 16 full-time year-round employees, and a range of seasonally contracted artists and staff. Its administrative office is located in Portland, Oregon, and its Central Oregon location is located outside of Sisters.

Position Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician

Supervisor: Property Manager

Status: Full time, 37.5 hrs/week, non exempt

Schedule: 5 days a week, 7.5 hr shifts. Specific schedule to be discussed during the interview process. Occasional holidays based on scheduling needs of the whole team.

Work Location: Caldera’s Arts Center, 31500 Blue Lake Dr, Sisters, OR 97759. During on-call hours, the person in this position must be reachable by phone and within one hour of the Arts Center. Potential for quarterly overnight in-state travel.

Compensation: $54,765-$66,935. This is a full-time, salaried position classified as Exempt, meaning it is not eligible for overtime compensation. Benefits include generous paid time off, health, dental, and vision insurance, 403(b) retirement participation, long-term disability, short-term disability, and life insurance. On-site housing may be provided if needed.

Position Description:

Caldera’s Arts Center Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance of the Arts Center facility. This includes buildings and property, all fixed and natural assets and equipment. With the help of other Arts Center staff members, the Facilities Technician will work closely with Caldera staff to support all Caldera onsite activities and functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the Facilities Technician will regularly be required to work at a computer, make phone calls, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds, operate complex equipment and machinery, complete outdoor labor including construction and cleanup projects in summer and snow plowing in winter. Reasonable accommodations will be made upon request.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Facilities Maintenance

  • Maintain Caldera’s physical facilities and land to support Caldera’s program needs, renters’ needs, and to meet government standards
  • Coordinate operation and maintenance of all building systems, including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, lighting, plumbing, boiler systems, sprinkler system, water heaters, air distribution, kitchen & food preparation systems/equipment, trash/pests/debris/snow removal, alarm systems, housekeeping/laundry, fuel reduction, water system, communication (phone, internet, etc.) etc.
  • Carry out daily facilities and land inspections
  • Schedule and oversee work performed by subcontractors in collaboration with the Director of Operations and Property Manager
  • Maintain facilities maintenance policies and processes documentation, including maintenance manuals, central files, and other information needed to provide continuity in the care of the facilities and site now and into the future
  • Work alongside and advise other team members on maintenance, repair, grounds keeping, vehicle repairs, and other tasks as needed
  • Work together with the Hospitality team and Programs team to build a collaborative environment and successful Rentals and Camp Residencies
  • Ensure facilities are stocked properly with supplies
  • Support preparation for and execution of public events at Caldera
  • Support management of annual inspections
  • Respond to on-call requests received during scheduled on-call hours. During on-call hours, the employee must be reachable by phone and within one hour travel of the Arts Center

Security and Safety

  • Secure site assets and maintain site security
  • Respond to safety or security concerns from staff, guests, or others onsite
  • Understand and follow safety and security policies and procedures

Administrative Duties

  • Participate in staff meetings, quarterly team days, and retreats
  • Provide information and input as requested to the Property Manager, Director of Operations, and staff leadership, to support decision-making and Caldera’s strategic goals
