Job summary

RATP is seeking a Facility Mechanic in North Charleston, SC to perform maintenance, repairs, and operation of transit facility buildings and related infrastructure. You will ensure safety, compliance, and functionality of facilities and support systems.

The role requires at least 2 years of experience in facility maintenance, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid SC driver’s license. You will coordinate with contractors and maintain records while supporting emergency response

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in facility maintenance or related field.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid South Carolina driver's license required.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on facility systems including HVAC, plumbing, painting, electrical, lighting, and mechanical equipment.
  • Inspect and maintain building infrastructure such as doors, windows, roofing, flooring, and structural components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair facility equipment like air compressors, generators, pumps, lifts, and shop equipment.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors during maintenance and repair projects.
  • Maintain maintenance records, inspection reports, and work orders.
  • Assist with facility improvement and renovation projects.
  • Support snow removal, storm preparation, and other emergency response activities.

Mission

The Facility Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of transit facility buildings, grounds, and related infrastructure. This position ensures that maintenance facilities, administrative buildings, and support systems remain safe, functional, and compliant with applicable regulations.

Profile

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative maintenance on and repairs on facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, painting, electrical, lighting, and mechanical equipment.
  • Inspects and maintain building infrastructure, including doors, windows, roofing, flooring, and structural components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair facility equipment such as air compressors, generators, pumps, lifts, and shop equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
  • Responds to facility emergencies, equipment failures, and work order requests.
  • Maintain transit facility grounds, parking areas, fencing, and other exterior infrastructure as assigned
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors during maintenance and repair projects.
  • Maintain maintenance records, inspection reports, and work orders.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and environmental regulations.
  • Assist with facility improvement and renovation projects.
  • Support snow removal, storm preparation, and other emergency response activities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • A valid South Carolina driver's license required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in facility maintenance or related field required.
  • Technical or vocational training in building maintenance or a related trade required.
  • Experience in commercial building maintenance, industrial maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and enter confined spaces.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
