Job summary

City of Laredo is seeking a Maintenance Worker to assist with building and grounds upkeep, perform semi-skilled tasks across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and other repairs, and support city facilities.

The role requires ability to work with diverse environments, drive a city vehicle, and communicate effectively in English and Spanish; background checks and a valid Texas driver license are required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
• Knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance work practices.
• Knowledge of general building cleaning procedures.
• Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and gardening.
• Knowledge of cleaning solutions.

Responsibilities

• Performs general building and grounds maintenance work; cleans, disinfects, and maintains restrooms; maintains equipment used to perform work.
• Paints walls and fixtures; moves chairs and tables to set-up special group meetings and trainings.
• Assists in the maintenance of air-conditioners and heating systems in accordance with accepted practices and procedures; performs minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
• Performs carpentry activities including painting and masonry work as needed.
• Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
