Job summary

The Magic House, St. Louis Children's Museum is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to support our Maintenance Department in both indoor and outdoor tasks. Responsibilities include routine maintenance, inspections, and assisting with exhibits and events.

Strong communication and reliability are essential for maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for visitors and staff. The role requires physical stamina, ability to multi-task, and a commitment to high standards of service.

Qualifications

  • Education: Minimum high school diploma; college degree preferred
  • Experience: One to three years of experience working in a facilities support role
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrates good judgment with the ability to solve problems by weighing and evaluating options
  • Demonstrated excellence in organization and time management skills
  • Excellent customer service skills—helpful, friendly, and patient attitude

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine light maintenance tasks including replacing light bulbs, changing HVAC filters, and painting touch-up work
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings, exhibits, and grounds to identify and report maintenance needs
  • Follow the weekly schedule of power washing, including sidewalks, outdoor spaces and fixtures, and interior furniture requiring washing
  • Manage the distribution of Museum deliveries including deliveries to MADE for Kids
  • Support custodial staff on an as-needed basis
  • Assist with special projects as needed including the installation/take down of outdoor holiday decorations, traveling, temporary, and permanent exhibits
  • Support the Warehouse through organization and exhibit fabrication as an assistant to the Fabricator
  • Manage the parking lot including guest vehicles, school buses, and deliveries
  • Set up, arrange, and tear down tables, chairs, audio/visual equipment, and other furnishings required for meetings, programs, rentals, and special events
  • Provide cold weather support by spreading ice melt and shoveling walkways to ensure a safe environment for visitors and employees
  • Work as a team member with Museum management to provide a safe and customer-focused environment
  • Support overall buildings, grounds, and maintenance tasks as needed
  • Participate in trainings as required by the organization
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Purpose:
Provide ongoing assistance to the Maintenance Department, supporting both indoor and outdoor needs of all facilities

Sunday-Thursday; schedule may occasionally change to accommodate needs of the Maintenance Department
