The Magic House, St. Louis Children's Museum seeks a Facilities Maintenance Technician to help maintain and repair the museum's buildings, exhibits, and grounds. The role requires hands-on work and a team mindset to support daily operations.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Director of Facilities, with opportunities to participate in training and provide cold weather support. The position is located at 516 S. Kirkwood Rd., Kirkwood, MO.

Qualifications

  • Experience: One to three years in facilities support.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine light maintenance tasks such as replacing bulbs, changing HVAC filters, and painting touch-ups.
  • Inspect buildings, exhibits, and grounds for maintenance needs and report.
  • Follow weekly power washing schedule for sidewalks and outdoor spaces.
  • Assist with deliveries and support custodial staff as needed.
  • Help with special projects including exhibit setup and takedown.
  • Support Warehouse and exhibit fabrication as needed.
  • Manage parking lot traffic including buses and guest vehicles.
  • Set up and tear down tables, chairs, AV equipment for events.
  • Provide cold weather support by spreading ice melt and shoveling walkways.
  • Work as a team with management to maintain a safe environment.
  • Participate in trainings and perform other duties as assigned.

Reports To: Director of Facilities

Job Purpose: Provide ongoing assistance to the Maintenance Department, supporting both indoor and outdoor needs of all facilities

Time Allocation: Sunday-Thursday; schedule may occasionally change to accommodate needs of the Maintenance Department

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine light maintenance tasks including replacing light bulbs, changing HVAC filters, and painting touch-up work:
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings, exhibits, and grounds to identify and report maintenance needs;
  • Follow the weekly schedule of power washing, including sidewalks, outdoor spaces and fixtures, and interior furniture requiring washing;
  • Manage the distribution of Museum deliveries including deliveries to MADE for Kids;
  • Support custodial staff on an as-needed basis;
  • Assist with special projects as needed including the installation/take down of outdoor holiday decorations, traveling, temporary, and permanent exhibits;
  • Support the Warehouse through organization and exhibit fabrication as an assistant to the Fabricator;
  • Manage the parking lot including guest vehicles, school buses, and deliveries;
  • Set up, arrange, and tear down tables, chairs, audio/visual equipment, and other furnishings required for meetings, programs, rentals, and special events;
  • Provide cold weather support by spreading ice melt and shoveling walkways to ensure a safe environment for visitors and employees;
  • Work as a team member with Museum management to provide a safe and customer-focused environment;
  • Support overall buildings, grounds, and maintenance tasks as needed;
  • Participate in trainings as required by the organization;
  • Perform other duties as assigned;
Qualifications
  • Experience: One to three years of experience working in a facilities support role
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrates good judgment with the ability to solve problems by weighing and evaluating options
  • Demonstrated excellence in organization and time management skills
  • Excellent customer service skills-helpful, friendly, and patient attitude
  • Ability to multi-task with a high level of output, detail, and accuracy
  • Reliable and dependable
