Job Overview
Under the general supervision of a senior technician or supervisor, the facilities maintenance technician performs intermediate tasks related to day-to-day inspections, preventative maintenance, and repair of buildings and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform building inspections and complete preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Install and maintain building equipment and fixtures.
- Respond to emergency maintenance situations and operate a department vehicle.
- Follow safety policies and procedures, maintain clean work areas and equipment.
- Complete work orders and required documentation, provide excellent customer service, and communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Assist other trades and perform additional duties as assigned.
- Support a professional workplace culture through integrity and accountability.
Other Departmental Duties
- Participate in professional development and continuing education activities, including obtaining and maintaining required certifications.
- Interact with and assist other areas and staff within the department.
- Participate in meetings, trainings, orientation, and committees as required.
- Perform any other duties assigned.
Minimum Classification Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years’ experience in general maintenance or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Obtain within the probationary period: valid OSHA 10‑hour General Industry Safety and Health card.
- Demonstrate competence in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC/R specialties.
- State of Ohio driver’s license may be required.
- Desired: Associate’s/technical degree or certificate in a skilled trade or maintenance‑related field; basic understanding of university building design standards and the capital project process.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to push and pull 70 lbs., distinguish colors, and climb ladders.
Unusual Work Conditions
May work in hot, cold, dusty, or dirty environments for extended periods and may be required to work in cramped spaces.
