Job summary

Akron Children’s Hospital is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to provide preventive, reactive, and emergency maintenance across all on‑ campus facilities, ensuring safe operation, regulatory compliance, and reliable services for patients, families, and staff.

The full‑time, onsite role requires strong communication, teamwork, and knowledge of basic trades, electrical, plumbing, BAS, and safety inspections, with on‑call coverage and night shifts from Sunday through Wednesday.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Years of relevant experience: Minimum of 2 years is preferred, but entry-level candidates will be considered.
• Valid driver’s license is required.
• An annual physical is required by ACH.
• Possesses a valid State driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain insurability per ACH requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide preventive, reactive, and emergency maintenance for on-campus facilities.
• Coordinate with the Facilities Maintenance team to serve hospital customers.
• Document all work completed by the maintenance crew.
• Support the Facilities Maintenance Operations Manager, Safety Team, and Facilities Director.
• Provide backup coverage to other Technicians as needed.
• Update staff and management on maintenance activities.
• Communicate engineering/maintenance issues to internal and external hospital departments.
• Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance.
• Conduct Environment of Care inspections and routine regulatory checks (e.g., exit/emergency lights, fire extinguishers, generator runs).
• Participate in ongoing training and education as required.
• Follow Joint Commission and CMS regulations.
• Be available for emergency on-call maintenance when needed.
• Perform other duties as required.

Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing preventative, reactive, and emergency maintenance to ensure all on-campus facilities are maintained safely and effectively.

Responsibilities

1. 1. Adds value as a key member of the facilities maintenance team; understands regulatory compliance, maintenance strategies, and excellent customer service.
2. 2. Works in coordination with the Facilities Maintenance team to serve our customers at the hospital campus.
3. 3. Completes and appropriately documents all work assigned to the Facilities Maintenance crew.
4. 4. Supports the Facilities Maintenance Operations Manager, Safety Team, and Facilities Director.
5. 5. Provides backup coverage to other Facilities Maintenance Technicians as needed.
6. 6. Updates staff and management when necessary.
7. 7. Communicates engineering/maintenance issues to both internal and external hospital departments and contacts.
8. 8. Performs preventive and breakdown maintenance.
9. 9. Conducts assigned Environment of Care inspections and routine regulatory physical checks, such as exit/emergency light inspections, fire extinguisher inspections, and generator runs.

Education and Experience
