Our client is seeking a hands-on, experienced Facilities Maintenance Supervisor with strong floor care expertise to lead a dedicated team in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment within a busy facility. This role is ideal for someone who understands the importance of floor care—especially in a healthcare setting—and thrives in a leadership role that is mostly out on the floor, actively guiding and coaching staff.

Location: Seattle, WA

Duration: 3-4 month contract

Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising a team of 9 floor care technicians and will also provide partial supervision for the operating room environmental services crew. While healthcare facility experience is a plus, deep knowledge of proper floor care protocols is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a floor care team of 9 and provide partial oversight of the operating room environmental services staff.
  • Spend approximately 75% of time on the floor—conducting staff rounds, coaching, observing, inspecting, and ensuring quality execution of floor care and cleaning procedures.
  • Allocate 25% of time to office-based responsibilities such as scheduling, performance management, staffing coordination, and administrative duties.
  • Train new and existing staff on proper floor care techniques, departmental standards, infection control procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Monitor cleanliness and service levels using audits, inspections, and CPI (Continuous Process Improvement) tools.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration with other departments to provide responsive and coordinated service.
  • Support the hiring and onboarding process for new environmental services team members.
  • Handle operational issues, resolve service complaints, and manage interdepartmental concerns.
  • Coordinate emergency response efforts related to environmental services (e.g., spills, floods, urgent cleaning needs).
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations, including JCAHO, Department of Health, and internal quality standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of floor care experience in a commercial, industrial, or healthcare setting—must know how to properly clean, maintain, and sanitize all floor types (e.g., VCT, tile, carpet, etc.).
  • At least 2 years of supervisory or lead experience, ideally within an environmental services or housekeeping team.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with an ability to coach and motivate staff across shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Hospitality Management, Health Management, or a related field.
  • Certified Executive Housekeeper (CEH) or Registered Executive Housekeeper (REH).
  • Experience managing diverse staff and supporting union/non-union workforces.
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulations and standards such as JCAHO or DOH audits.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and coaching skills.
  • Strong time management with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, etc.).
  • Understanding of infection control, hazardous waste protocols, and emergency response procedures.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 20–50 lbs. occasionally, 10–25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods (6+ hours per shift), with occasional stooping and sitting.
