Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider. Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time. Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Our services and programs reach over 1,300 individuals daily across nine campuses in Charlotte. Roof Above was formed through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor oversees daily maintenance operations at assigned facilities, ensuring all equipment and systems function effectively and efficiently. This role manages a team of maintenance technicians, schedules repairs, coordinates with vendors on-site, performs preventive maintenance, handles daily work orders and janitorial tasks, and maintains safety compliance.

• Lead and mentor maintenance technicians.
• Assign tasks and ensure timely completion of maintenance projects.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide staff training.
• Oversee daily maintenance activities for optimal equipment and facility performance.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
• Coordinate emergency repairs and troubleshooting.
• Ensure all activities comply with safety regulations and policies.
• Conduct regular inspections to identify hazards.
• Maintain records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
• Assist in developing and managing the maintenance budget.
• Track expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Coordinate maintenance with other departments to support operations.
• Communicate maintenance issues and project updates to management.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or higher preferred.
• Proven maintenance management or supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of maintenance techniques, tools, and safety practices.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Maintenance management software proficiency is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.

Working Environment

• Requires working nontraditional hours with minimal supervision.
• Physical activity including lifting (up to 50 lbs.), moving, walking, bending, standing, and climbing stairs/ladders.
• Ability to work in indoor and outdoor settings, tolerate contact with cleaning chemicals, and work in elevated environments.
• Typical schedule: first shift, Monday-Friday, with breaks and meal periods.
• On-call availability for emergency repairs.
