Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development in Baton Rouge seeks a Maintenance Repair position to perform maintenance and repairs across district facilities, including buildings, grounds, interiors, exteriors, and HVAC systems.

Responsibilities include painting, plumbing, carpentry, basic electrical work, equipment upkeep, record-keeping, and training of staff. Custodial duties and emergency support are also part of the role.

Qualifications

• One year of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.
• Six semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and repairs on district facilities, including buildings, grounds, interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, and HVAC systems.
• Complete repairs involving painting, plumbing, carpentry, and basic electrical work.
• Maintain and repair equipment, including tune-ups, replacing worn parts, and adjustments for safe operation.
• Operate equipment and vehicles, conduct routine safety inspections and preventive maintenance checks.
• Repair appliances by diagnosing issues and replacing components.
• Maintain maintenance records; prepare material requisitions and estimate labor and supplies.
• Train and assist in developing new or lower-level employees.
• Perform custodial duties, including cleaning and sanitizing buildings across the District 61 headquarters.
• Strip and wax floors, shampoo carpets, and set up/break down conference rooms for meetings.
