Job summary

San José State University seeks a Facilities Maintenance Mechanic to perform a wide range of skilled maintenance, repair and construction work across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry. The role reports to the Executive Director of Moss Landing Marine Laboratories and supports safe, functional facilities for research and learning.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, diagnostics with building automation, emergency repairs, blueprint interpretation, and record-keeping.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience leading to journey-level skills in facility repair and maintenance, or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry
• Operate, inspect, maintain, and repair building systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, water, and utilities
• Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment using building automation and computerized maintenance systems
• Respond to emergency repair needs to prevent equipment failure, damage, or safety hazards
• Inspect completed work for safety code compliance
• Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications
• Maintain records of work using computerized systems
• Operate equipment such as lifts, forklifts, and maintenance devices as certified
• Provide guidance to unskilled or semi-skilled assistants
• Maintain clean, safe work environments and follow safety protocols
