Job summary

American Iron & Metal (AIM) in Colton, CA seeks a Facilities Maintenance Manager responsible for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective upkeep of all facilities and site assets. You will lead maintenance staff and coordinate contractors to ensure uninterrupted operations.

You will develop preventive programs for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and related systems, oversee scales and regulatory compliance, and manage budgets and service contracts.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in facilities maintenance management.
  • Strong understanding of commercial/industrial buildings, utilities, and contractor management.
  • Experience with budgets, service contracts, and capital projects preferred.
  • Strong planning and communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; ability to multitask.

Job Description

Responsible for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective maintenance of all company facilities, infrastructure, and site assets. The Facilities Maintenance Manager leads facility maintenance personnel, manages contractors, plans preventive maintenance, administers facility-related budgets and service agreements, and ensures company sites remain operational, compliant, and professional in appearance while supporting uninterrupted operations.

What you're responsible for:
  • Supervise all daily facilities maintenance activities across buildings, grounds, and site infrastructure.
  • Develop and execute preventive maintenance programs for facility systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, lighting, generators, compressors, and utility infrastructure.
  • Oversee maintenance, calibration coordination, and vendor support for truck scales, rail scales, and floor scales to ensure reliable operation and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain facility grounds including fencing, gates, barriers, guardrails, landscaping, parking lots, employee walkways, and traffic flow systems.
  • Ensure all traffic signage, directional signage, speed control devices, pedestrian markings, safety signage, emergency evacuation maps, and visual controls remain accurate, visible, and in good condition.
  • Oversee exterior and interior lighting systems, ensuring adequate illumination for production, transportation routes, parking areas, and security requirements.
  • Coordinate inspection, cleaning, repair, and regulatory compliance of stormwater collection, drainage, and filtration systems while partnering with Environmental and EHS personnel.
  • Coordinate fire lane access, emergency exits, fire extinguishers, hydrant accessibility, bollards, and other facility requirements supporting emergency response and code compliance.
  • Plan and coordinate painting projects including buildings, safety markings, curbs, structural steel, equipment supports, traffic striping, and other facility appearance improvements.
  • Coordinate inspection and maintenance of rail infrastructure including rail tracks, crossings, unloading areas, and contractor support for specialized repairs.
  • Identify, prioritize, and coordinate concrete repairs involving roadways, equipment pads, loading areas, sidewalks, foundations, and employee walking surfaces to reduce safety hazards and operational interruptions.
  • Administer facility service contracts, leases, and vendor agreements including building leases, janitorial services, pest control, landscaping, security systems, waste services, utilities, and specialized contractors. Monitor contract performance and renewal schedules.
  • Manage maintenance work orders, contractor scheduling, maintenance inventory, budgets, and capital improvement projects while partnering closely with Operations, Transportation, Equipment Maintenance, EHS, Commercial, and HR.
Qualifications
To join our team:
Education/Experience:
  • 7+ years of experience in Facilities Maintenance management.
  • Strong understanding of commercial/industrial buildings, utilities, concrete, fencing, lighting, drainage systems, and contractor management.
  • Experience managing budgets, service contracts, and capital projects preferred.
  • Strong planning, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with a maintenance management systems preferred.
Language Skills:
  • Will be required to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos, to write correspondence, memos, and schedules; to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests, clients, and fellow staff.
Mathematical Skills
  • Strong math skills required.
Reasoning Ability:
  • Problem solving, reasoning, and “thinking out of the box” will be a constant requirement; in addition, applying common sense understanding to better serve our guests’ needs.
Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of walking and standing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at a time.
  • Consistently sits, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crawls, or crouches.
  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
  • Extended periods of reaching with hands and arms.
  • Consistently turning and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs
Vision Requirements:
  • Regularly uses close, distance, color, and peripheral vision as well as depth perception. Ability to adjust focus.
Environment/Noise:
  • Often works outdoors in both hot and cold temperatures.
  • Occasionally works in wet areas
