Job summary

NALHE is seeking an Operating Engineer in Los Angeles to perform a range of routine and skilled preventive maintenance for hospital facilities and equipment. The role involves inspecting systems, repairing or replacing components, and ensuring safe, efficient operation of boilers, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical infrastructure.

The position requires adherence to policies and procedures, and the ability to work under supervision while maintaining detailed maintenance records.

Responsibilities

• Upholds Kaiser Permanente's policies and applicable laws.
• Inspects equipment and facilities for proper operation; maintains records and calls out malfunctions; disassembles, repairs or replaces parts; tests operation.
• Reports serious problems to Chief Engineer for instructions and scheduling.
• Attend to boilers and heaters; adjust to maintain steam pressure, water flow and safety devices.
• Tests boiler water and adds chemicals as necessary.
• Service and repair heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment; replace filters and fluids; maintain repair records.
• Perform general semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, including electrical works (wiring, switches, control equipment, motors, transformers, relays, etc.).
• General mechanical maintenance of hospital and clinic equipment; plumbing maintenance for steam, gas, water and sanitary systems.
• Exclude highly technical x-ray and surgical equipment.
• General plumbing maintenance: repair and alterations to steam, gas, water, air and sanitary pipes; bend, cut and thread pipe; test joints for leaks.
• Repair leaks and clear drain stoppages.
• General welding for non-certified work; repair and assemble cords, replace fuses, ballast and tubes; lubricate motors.
• Clean sinks and grease traps; replace valves; assemble equipment and repair mechanisms.
• Perform routine manual duties like moving supplies, removing trash, replacing light bulbs.
• Establish courteous relations with staff and patients; perform other duties as required.
