Job summary

Los Angeles Community Hospital seeks a Maintenance Engineer to keep the hospital’s physical plant, boilers, HVAC, electrical and mechanical systems in good repair. Performs preventive maintenance to ensure upkeep of hospital facilities and equipment.

The role requires a high school diploma and at least one year of plant operations experience, plus strong English communication, safety awareness, and customer service capabilities. Reliable, proactive problem solving is valued.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• One year previous experience as a maintenance engineer in plant operations.
• Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to use sound reasoning and judgment to resolve issues.
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only).

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots and diagnoses electrical and mechanical device malfunctions; repairs parts, lubricates, and tests equipment.
• Maintains machinery per diagrams, sketches, manuals and specifications using hand/power tools and precision instruments.
• Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration equipment; maintains HVAC controls and related equipment.
• Constructs, repairs, and maintains wooden structures; applies finishes to decorate and protect surfaces.
• Calibrates thermostatic controls and monitors facility systems and plant operation.
• Demonstrates independent judgment, good customer service, and HIPAA compliance.
