Job summary

City of Deer Park is seeking a Custodian to perform a range of skilled and unskilled tasks for city buildings. The role includes cleaning, minor repairs, and maintaining equipment as part of routine facility upkeep.

Under supervision, the incumbent may supervise temporary staff and community service workers, and must be able to lift up to 100 pounds, stand for long periods, and operate cleaning tools safely in a public service setting.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.
• Ability to operate listed tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; must lift heavy objects, stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Changes light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
• Cleans and maintains floors, carpets and furniture; vacuums, mops, dusts, and polishes.
• Cleans restrooms, replenishes supplies, and sanitizes surfaces.
• Washes windows, walls, and woodwork; cleans rain gutters and roofs as needed.
• Keeps records of work completed and maintains equipment in good condition.
• Opens/closes facilities and ensures security as required.
