Job summary

The City of Deer Park is seeking a versatile Parks Maintenance Worker to perform unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of parks, open spaces, grounds, turf and related facilities. The role requires physical stamina, the ability to lift heavy objects, operate lawn and landscaping equipment, and work under supervision to complete daily activities on a schedule.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and heavy lifting.
• Understanding of basic safety precautions for grounds maintenance.
• Ability to operate and use common lawn and maintenance tools.
• Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
• Willingness to learn and follow written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Maintains park and open space areas; weeds flower beds; cleans and maintains courts.
• Performs trash and debris removal from park and open space areas.
• Sweeps, washes, paints, and repairs or replaces outdoor tables and slabs.
• Performs routine maintenance on lawn with power equipment.
• Plants lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers.
• Maintains current skills and knowledge in proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance.
• Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed.
• Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various functions and programs.
