Job summary

Heritage Senior Communities seeks a Maintenance Assistant at Appledorn South in Michigan to help maintain the building, equipment, and grounds to provide a safe, clean, and well-functioning environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

The role supports the Maintenance Supervisor, with first shift hours and a pay range of $16.00–$18.00 per hour, based on experience. Benefits, training, and advancement opportunities are offered to qualified applicants.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write and carry out directions in English.
• Experience in maintenance preferred.
• Basic skills in painting, repairs, and equipment operations.
• Minimum of 18 years of age.
• Must be able to pass criminal background and pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Complete work orders promptly and in priority order (emergencies first).
• Perform routine maintenance to ensure building systems and equipment are fully operational.
• Communicate delays, needed parts, or issues to supervisor.
• Assist with painting, repairs, and general upkeep of apartments and common areas.
• Maintain exterior areas including sidewalks, parking lots, and flower beds.
• Assist with snow and ice removal to ensure safe walkways and exits.
• Maintain outdoor features (patio furniture, courtyards, fountains, etc.).
• Perform routine inspections of building and grounds and address concerns.
• Operate and maintain equipment (carpet cleaners, snow blowers, etc.).
• Report hazards, maintenance concerns, or unsafe conditions immediately.
• On-Call duties minimum of one weekend/month for Maintenance Supervisor
