Job summary

STAR, Inc. is seeking a dependable, hands-on Facilities Maintenance Assistant to help maintain our residential and program locations throughout lower Fairfield County. This role requires solid general handyman skills and the ability to perform routine repairs, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and basic fixture work.

You must be comfortable using hand and power tools and able to travel between STAR locations. 40 hours per week at $19.00-$20.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• General handyman and maintenance experience is required or preferred.
• Comfortable using common hand and power tools.
• Ability to troubleshoot and complete basic repairs independently.
• Reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple work requests.
• Good communication skills and a positive, respectful approach.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and minor repairs at STAR facilities
• Complete basic carpentry, painting, patching, and repair work
• Handle minor plumbing and fixture repairs
• Assemble, install, and repair furniture, shelving, hardware, and equipment
• Replace light bulbs, fixtures, locks, handles, and other basic building components
• Assist with preventative maintenance and routine property inspections
• Help maintain the appearance and safety of STAR properties
• Respond to maintenance requests and complete work in a timely manner
• Assist the Facilities team with other projects as needed

Experience in building maintenance, property maintenance, construction, or a related field is helpful, but we are most interested in finding someone who is dependable, capable, and knows how to fix things.

Compensation

$19.00-20.00 per hour

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• One to three years of general building maintenance, facilities, construction, or related experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of basic carpentry, painting, plumbing and general building repairs
• Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and perform physical tasks, including bending, climbing ladders, kneeling, working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Valid Drivers License with Acceptable driving record
• Experience working in a nonprofit, healthcare, human services or residential setting a plus but not required.

Schedule

40 hours a week Monday-Friday
