Job summary

Dart Container, headquartered in Mason, MI, is seeking an HVAC technician to perform repair, maintenance and installation tasks across campus facilities. The role covers plumbing, HVAC/R systems, EMS/controls, and preventative work, with responsibility for safety and code compliance.

The ideal candidate has HVAC/R experience, soldering skills, and the ability to handle on-call shifts while using a tablet or computer to log service records.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of varied HVAC/R experience (i.e. hot water, indirect and direct gas fired, and steam)
  • Two (2) years of experience soldering and brazing (e.g. copper pipes)
  • Requires ability to obtain and maintain aerial lift, fork truck or scissor lift licenses

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair and maintain plumbing systems and components
  • Maintain and repair campus wide fire suppression/sprinkler system
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, inspect, modify and repair HVAC/R equipment and related systems
  • Read and utilize instruction manuals, safety manuals, blue prints, and diagrams
  • Lead and monitor work by outside contractors for compliance with codes

If you are interested in HVAC Repair, come join us! Seeking candidates who are go getters and are ready to jump into a well established HVAC Team! Perform work in the repair, maintenance, service, modification, troubleshooting, installation and monitoring of the operation of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and associated plumbing, electrical, mechanical, EMS (Energy Management Control System) and controls systems.

This position includes at great shift schedule of Monday thru Friday from 7:00am - 3:30pm! Starting pay at $30.13 with the ability to increase based on experience!

Day to day Role:
  • Install, repair and maintain plumbing systems and components
  • Maintain and repair campus wide fire suppression/sprinkler system
  • Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meet code requirements
  • Utilize BMS system to control HVAC units
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, inspect, modify and repair heating (hot water, indirect and direct gas fired, and steam), ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and associated equipment and parts
  • Evaluate preliminary mechanical design plans and specifications for remodels, upgrades or new construction
  • Lead and monitor any work done by outside contractors and other Facility Engineering personnel for adherence to state and federal Code Requirements and reports back to the supervisor
  • Assist in the writing of specifications for repairs and new construction
  • Maintain service and repair records using a tablet and computer databases
  • Research, purchase and inventory equipment parts, chemicals and supplies
  • Respond to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service
  • Read and utilize instruction manuals, safety manuals, blue prints, and diagrams of equipment and place part orders
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with customers and Dart management on the status of projects and potential issues
  • Fabricate and install equipment (e.g. duct work)
  • Safely test and assess electrical systems such as 3 phase alternate current (AC) up to 480 volts (V)
  • Operate, maintain and keep inventory of a variety of hand and power tools, welder torch, vacuum pump, test equipment
  • Repair and rebuild compressors
  • Perform skilled electrical maintenance work in the repair, installation and alteration of HVAC/R equipment, components, timers, motors and wiring systems as needed; connect motors to control panels
  • Lubricate and pack heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air-conditioning motors, pumps, fans and other equipment
  • Install and calibrate systems; install copper tubing and repair pipes and tubing as necessary; test joints and insulate pipes of refrigeration and air conditioning system
  • Install, rebuild, replace and repair fans, motors, thermostats, fuses, filters, bearings, valves, controls, gaskets and other equipment as necessary
  • Assist and serve as back up to other Facilities Engineering employees
Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of varied HVAC/R experience (i.e. hot water, indirect and direct gas fired, and steam)
  • Two (2) years of experience soldering and brazing (e.g. copper pipes)
  • One (1) year of experience with commercial roof-top, 480V and 3-phase units
  • Requires the ability to be on call and work a varied schedule
  • Requires the ability to obtain and maintain an aerial lift, fork truck or scissor lift licenses
  • Requires a set of personal hand tools, including, but not limited to: wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, etc.
  • Requires excellent verbal and strong written communication
  • Requires the ability to understand and utilize addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and decimals
