Job summary

Town of Smithfield is seeking a motivated Maintenance Worker to perform building and grounds maintenance for Town facilities, cemeteries, parks, and related sites.

Responsibilities include turf management, plant installations, mowing, and general upkeep; as well as minor carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks to uphold safety and operational standards. A high school diploma or GED is required, along with a NC Commercial Ground Applicator’s Pesticide License and a valid NC driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in grounds and facility repair methods and tools.
• Knowledge of safety standards for facilities and grounds work.
• Some knowledge of horticultural design and plant installations.
• Ability to apply chemicals and pesticides per state rules.

Responsibilities

• Perform landscape maintenance (turf management, plant installations, mowing, trimming, mulching, watering, fertilizing).
• Conduct facility and cemetery maintenance (backfilling graves, removing debris, changing bulbs, moving furniture, decorating, servicing lawn equipment).
• Inspect facilities and cemeteries for safety and document records.
• Perform semi-skilled maintenance (carpentry, electrical, plumbing) as needed.
