This position is based out of Indianapolis and the surrounding areas. Pay starts at $19/hr and includes full benefits (see below). The Facilities & Grounds Technician maintains and repairs equipment, buildings, and physical grounds throughout all the facilities operated by Goodwill Legacy Group. The Technician performs general repairs, preventive maintenance, relocations, and installations while continuously focusing on quality, safety, customer relations, and performance. The Technician ensures accurate data input and completion of assigned work orders through the department's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, repair, and complete routine maintenance of facility and physical grounds at all Goodwill locations to ensure a safe and productive work environment, certify product quality, guarantee customer satisfaction, and promote continuous improvement.
- Travel to off‑site locations by company service vehicle to perform grounds services and routine maintenance, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, basic electrical work, and furniture relocation.
- Disassemble mechanical equipment and tools, repair or replace worn or broken parts, and reassemble.
- Adjust parts of mechanical devices as needed and inspect completed repairs.
- Perform preventative maintenance as scheduled.
- Operate basic hand and machine tools, adhering to all safety procedures.
- Ensure timely updating and completion of work orders using the CMMS, inputting maintenance data and repair information.
- Communicate daily and work effectively and professionally with Facilities management, customers, service contractors, and others to coordinate scheduling and repair activities.
- Maintain all training requirements for the position, while seeking out opportunities for continuous development and growth.
- Cross‑train and assist in other areas to build skill base and value within the department.

- Carpentry Skills – Proficient at measuring, wall anchoring, drywall finishing, and installing hardware; has worked with a variety of hand tools.

- Technical Knowledge – Familiarity with computers, tablets, and smartphones for a variety of applications and email correspondence; prior experience using a CMMS to handle work orders and PM checklist is an additional plus.

Preferred Competencies
- Facility Maintenance Expertise – Has worked either as part of a team or individually focused on the general upkeep of a building(s) and the surrounding grounds, adept at constructing, installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment and/or building fixtures; familiar with troubleshooting issues and finding root causes and fixing them.

- Physical demands – Able to spend time in excess of 8 hours standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and crouching; uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaches with hands and arms; can climb, balance, talk and hear; can move and lift up to 50 pounds; can manage exposure to loud noises, outside weather, and moving mechanical parts; will occasionally be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
- Visual acuity – Must have close, distance, peripheral, and color vision abilities, and be able to adjust focus.
