Job summary

City of Austin is seeking a Building & Grounds Assistant to perform custodial, groundskeeping, and light maintenance across library facilities in Austin. You will assist with cleaning, minor repairs, and event setup to ensure clean, safe spaces for the public and staff.

The role requires standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and driving when needed. A Texas driver’s license is required for vehicle operations, with flexible shifts and full-time hours.

Qualifications

• One (1) year experience related to janitorial or groundskeeping services.
• Ability to read and follow instructions and safety guidelines.
• Must be able to operate cleaning equipment and power tools.
• Must possess or obtain Texas Driver’s License if operating vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Clean building interiors.
• Mix, stir, and pour chemicals.
• Perform grounds maintenance.
• Perform minor building maintenance and repair.
• Operate and maintain assigned vehicles and equipment.
• Assist with event setup, breakdown, and haul‑away.
• Complete forms and prepare reports.
• Train new employees to perform basic duties.
