Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness, functionality, and safety of the facility interior and exterior.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on buildings, fleet vehicles, and barn facilities.
  • Support deliveries, donations pickup, and event setup/breakdown.
  • Inspect and maintain fleet vehicles; report maintenance needs.
  • Walk grounds daily to remove trash and debris; operate a leaf blower.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of food items.
  • Report safety hazards to the Director of Operations promptly.
  • Wear PPE as required.

As a Facilities & Fleet Maintenance team member at Companion Animal Alliance, you’ll play an essential role in keeping our shelter safe, clean, functional, and ready to serve the animals and community every day. This hands-on position combines facility maintenance, cleaning, grounds upkeep, minor repairs, vehicle care, deliveries, and event support, so every day brings something different.Primary Responsibilities:You will be responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness, functionality, and safety of the CAA facility, both inside and out, as well as the fleet required to operate on a daily basis. This includes:Facility Maintenance (Interior):Sweep and mop high-traffic areas such as the lobby and employee entrance dailyEnsure all restrooms remain in excellent working condition throughout the day:Keep restrooms fully stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, and soapSweep and mop restroom floorsClean and sanitize toilets, counters, sinks, and fixturesWipe down mirrors and monitor for cleanliness throughout the dayMonitor for and report or repair any facility issues including damage to walls, floors, ceilings, and lighting.Inspect and maintain hand sanitizer, soap, and paper towel dispensers throughout the building.Inspect washers and dryers regularly, ensuring lint is being removed properly by staff.Transport and dispose of waste materials to the landfill on a regular basis, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on buildings, fleet vehicles, and barn facilities to ensure ongoing operational efficiency.Assist in the setup and breakdown of events hosted by the organization, including those organized by the CAA.Support the coordination and execution of deliveries and donation pickups.Ensure proper storage, handling, and organization of food items in designated storage areas, in accordance with health and safety guideline.Facility Maintenance (Exterior):Walk the grounds daily to identify and remove trash or debrisUse a leaf blower to clear sidewalks, driveways, and parking lanesBlow pea gravel back into the play yard areas as neededClean building windows (interior and exterior) periodically to keep them free of dirt and smudgesFleet Maintenance:Perform regular inspections of all CAA vehiclesEnsure vehicles are clean, fueled, and in safe operating conditionReport any maintenance or repair needs to the Director of OperationsSchedule routine service appointments and track vehicle maintenance recordsEducation and Work Experience Requirements: High school education or equivalent Basic understanding of cleaning and lawn equipment Ability to work with minimal supervision Must demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills; customer service oriented Must be organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to multi-taskPhysical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: Ability to push/lift 75 pounds Ability to climb ladders Bending at waist, sitting, kneeling, climbing, walking, crouching as job may require Ability to work in extreme temperatures Working in high noise levels requiring hearing protection Working around cleaning substances, paints, various chemicals, outdoor elementsWhile performing job duties employees may work near live animals, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes related to cleaning chemicals, and airborne particles.Knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform essential job functionsFollow the mission of CAA.Be familiar with all shelter Standard Operating Procedures and the Employee Manual.Self-starter.Ability to handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness.Ability to represent CAA in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers and staff.Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within CAA, with volunteers, the public and be a team player.Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and computerized format.Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.Always maintain a courteous and professional attitude toward staff, volunteers, and the publicWear appropriate PPE at all times while performing dutiesReport any safety hazards or urgent maintenance concerns to the Director of Operations promptly
