The Pond Guy, a leading pond and water garden products manufacturer and distributor, seeks a Facilities & Field Maintenance Technician in Armada, MI. The role blends in-field service at customer sites with facility upkeep.

You will install, troubleshoot, and repair fountain and aeration systems, perform preventative maintenance, and support shop operations. A strong mechanical mindset, problem solving, and customer focus are essential.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of technical, mechanical, or equipment maintenance experience.
• 2–3 years of customer service experience recommended; sales experience is a plus
• Basic to intermediate electrical knowledge, with high-voltage experience a plus
• Proficient computer skills including service software and basic office programs
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Valid Michigan Driver’s License with clean driving record; ability to get Chauffer’s license and DOT card
• Ability to operate a boat and drive a truck and trailer after training
• Experience operating heavy machinery is a plus
• Basic knowledge of pond management, fish health, wildlife behaviors is a plus
• Cross-train on pond management, including state certification as a chemical applicator

Do you like maintaining equipment and facilities, troubleshooting issues, and making sure systems run safely and efficiently while helping customers find solutions?

We’re looking for a Facilities & Field Maintenance Technician to join our Service Department in a stable, year‑round position that combines hands‑on field service with facility maintenance. This position works directly with customers at their locations to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair fountain and aeration systems while also supporting the maintenance and upkeep of The Pond Guy’s facilities, grounds, and equipment.

The Pond Guy / Airmax, Inc. is the leading manufacturer and distributor of pond, lake, and water garden products-including aeration systems, fountains, and water treatments—to a nationwide network of end‑users and Airmax dealers.

The Facilities & Field Maintenance Technician plays a key role within our Service Department, balancing customer‑facing field service with the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of company facilities, grounds, and equipment. This position completes service calls and installations at customer locations, troubleshoots equipment and system issues, and helps coordinate field service activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to The Pond Guy’s service standards.

When not working at customer locations, this role supports facility operations through preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, and general upkeep. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, leadership, and a customer‑focused mindset.

Here are some examples of the actual work your day would include:

• Complete service calls at customer locations regarding pond/lake equipment and lead or assist with installations of complete fountain and aeration systems
• Support the scheduling and coordination of daily service routes while maintaining communication with service office staff to optimize assignments and customer satisfaction
• Communicate with customers regarding pond and equipment status, maintenance needs, service issues, and recommended solutions
• Electronically complete service notes, including work orders and inventory used, and communicate repair trends to Quality and management
• Follow and reinforce safety procedures regarding product use, equipment installation and service, electrical practices, facility maintenance, and safety devices
• Assist with vehicle, equipment, inventory, and shop inspections and ensure proper cleaning, maintenance, and storage procedures are followed
• Cross‑train and support other Service Department functions as needed, including aquatic treatment activities, while following applicable regulatory requirements
• Support grounds, facility, and general building maintenance, including identifying maintenance needs and completing repairs within the scope of the position
• Coordinate with internal teams and outside service providers when facility repairs or maintenance require additional expertise or resources

Job Requirements

To be successful in this role, you need to have a certain amount of knowledge and skills:

• 3-5 years of technical, mechanical, facility, or equipment maintenance experience

• Basic to intermediate electrical knowledge required, including troubleshooting and safely working around electrical systems; experience with high‑voltage systems is a plus

Because this position performs work at The Pond Guy facilities as well as customer locations, the physical requirements apply to facility, shop, outdoor, and field‑service environments. This position also requires the ability to swim, perform repetitive motions for extended periods; demonstrate manual dexterity when working with small components; frequently bend, stoop, and stand for long durations; lift, lower, and carry packages typically weighing 25–50 lbs; and handle packages up to 150 lbs with assistance. In the field, expect adverse weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, etc. for portions of the position that may be completed in these circumstances.

Availability

While this is a year‑round position, during the months of April through September, there will be extended work schedules, and you must be available to work between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. This equates to an average of 40-50 hours per week. During peak season, there are little to no Saturday shifts. The remaining months will have a Monday‑Friday schedule.
