SUMMARY:

Learns all activities required to effectively lay out work, set-up appropriate equipment for surface preparation, determine type of paint, best method of application to obtain an optimum finish per design specifications and published schedules. Must demonstrate an aptitude to efficiently utilize resources to minimize scrap, materials, and labor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Must strictly adhere to published company I.S.O. guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintains and turns in accurate daily labor reports.
  • Must strictly adhere to published Company safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Must supply own hand tools per published list.
  • Becomes familiar with and gains an understanding of all equipment assigned to the area including the various safety aspects such as lockout/tagout, confined space entry, protective outerwear, respirators, proper ventilation, and associated equipment procedures, capabilities, and capacities.
  • Must demonstrate an aptitude of how to perform all prepatory processes assigned to the area including work surface preparation, paint removal, and the selection of appropriate fillers to fill holes, cracks, joints, etc.
  • Must demonstrate an aptitude of how to select, set-up, and adjust miscellaneous hand tools and equipment.
  • Must demonstrate an aptitude of how to perform pre-mixed paint selection, paint preparation by mixing pigments, oil, thinner, drying substances and how to mix finishes for consistency and viscosity to optimize method of application.
  • Must demonstrate an aptitude of how to work at heights required for painting walls, ceilings, large vessels, or other furnace components.
  • Must demonstrate an aptitude of how to select, set-up, adjust, and operate equipment to meet specifications.
  • Must demonstrate an aptitude of how to utilize all facility spray equipment to maximize coverage and durability.
  • Must demonstrate an aptitude of how to plan the painting sequence and equipment necessary to complete job.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of how to verify proof of conformance of finished product to specifications.
  • Must be able to follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of how to safely operate overhead cranes, fork trucks, handtrucks, or other various equipment to move material or product.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of the principals, capacities, and safety aspects of how to properly select, attach, and move materials and/or equipment with the appropriate lifting devices such as chains, clevices, or straps.
  • Must demonstrate an aptitude of how to perform simple upkeep and/or cleaning of equipment.
  • Must demonstrate an aptitude for stock locations and stores excess materials and/or paints properly and in a timely manner.
  • Maintains housekeeping standards in compliance with established company policies.
  • Must be able to work with supervision and/or leadmen to accomplish any given task.
  • Assists others as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.) and a minimum of 1 year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and comprehend all forms of written and/or verbal instructions. Ability to write simple correspondence. Effectively able to present information and respond to questions from managers, supervisors, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply a common sense approach and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Fork lift and overhead crane training and certification required.
