Job summary

State-of-West-Virgini is seeking an experienced maintenance technician to perform journey-level work maintaining and repairing equipment for heating, cooling, and general operation of public buildings in West Virginia.

You will use meters and gauges to diagnose systems, calculate materials, and may work in asbestos or environmental settings with proper training; a valid driver's license is required; shift and call-back work may be required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a standard four-year high school or GED or four-year apprenticeship program or two-year post-secondary technical school.
• Experience in air-conditioning, heating or refrigeration may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.
• Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in heating, cooling, ventilation or the mechanical or building trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plasterer, painter, welder, machinist, mechanic or masonry work.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair equipment used in heating, cooling, and general operation of public buildings.
• Use meters and measuring tools to diagnose and test systems.
• Calculate and order materials.
• Possess a valid driver's license; shift work and call-back requirements may be required.
• Perform related maintenance work as required.

Job description

These position work under general supervision, performs experienced journey level work maintaining and repairing a variety of equipment used in heating, cooling and general operation of public buildings. Uses OHM meters, volt meters, AMP meters, thermometers, hydrometers, conductivity meters, light meters, sound meters, dial indicators, micrometers, and calipers. Calculates and orders material. May be required, with proper training, to work in asbestos or other environmental issues. Must have a valid driver's license. Shift work and call-back work may be required. Performs related work as required.

• -In accordance with SPB 3088 effective 10/7/23, $5,000 will be added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility. Critical Vacancy Pay Facilities: Huttonsville Correctional Center and Jail, Mount Olive Correctional Complex and Jail, Western Regional Jail and Corrections Facility, Northern Correctional Facility (including Ohio County Correctional Center) Northern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, Chick Buckbee Juvenile Center, Vicki Douglas Juvenile Center, Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, and Eastern Regional Jail and Corrections Facility (including Martinsburg Correctional Center) (SPB3088)
• -Employees in this classification shall receive an annual base building pay differential each fiscal year of $250 after completing one year of service.
• -If an employee is hired into a Critical Vacancy Pay Facility (CVPF) and leaves the facility, the additional pay differential of $5,000 shall be removed from their salary, unless transferring to another CVPF.

Training:

Special Requirement:

Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
