Job summary

The Seattle Art Museum (SAM) is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer to join the Facilities team overseeing mechanical, electrical, and control systems across SAM's sites. This hands-on role focuses on preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and safety compliance to keep the museum fully functional.

The ideal candidate has five years of building operations experience, expertise in HVAC systems, and the ability to lead and mentor the Facilities Engineering team while maintaining critical

Qualifications

• Five years of work experience in operating essential buildings or critical environments
• Working knowledge of direct digital control HVAC systems
• Working knowledge of CMMS asset management programs
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Asana, Slack and internet-based research
• Ability to write clear and understandable maintenance task procedures
• Ability to operate personnel and scissor lifts

Responsibilities

• Monitor and ensure the proper operation of MEP systems and general maintenance
• Assist with supervision of the Facilities Engineering team
• Support the engineering team in performing duties as needed
• Determine work procedures and expedite workflow
• Assign duties and examine completed work for quality and alignment with team standards
• Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and safety standards
• Standardize procedures to improve efficiency
• Maintain engineering library and infrastructure records
• Assure as-built records of projects and documentation for operation and maintenance
• Maintain cleanliness in engineering spaces
• Procure spare parts and tools
• Maintain procedures manual for daily operations
• Compile and maintain service logs
• Test and ensure functionality of building fire life systems

Skills

Journey level HVAC mechanic experience

Five years’ work experience in large-c

Direct digital control HVAC systems

CMMS asset management programs

MS Office Suite, Zoom, Asana, Slack

First Aid, AED and CPR training

Safety procedures knowledge

Leadership / supervisory skills

Education

BA, ME or EE
