AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA seeks a Facilities Engineer to support safe, reliable facility operations and lead improvements across a multi-site campus. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical experience with 2+ years in engineering/operations.
  • Demonstrated discipline knowledge with practical application and problem solving.
  • Ability to analyze situations/data and make judgments within procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute facility projects including scope, schedule, and budgeting.
  • Manage work orders in Maximo CMMS from creation to closeout.
  • Host vendors on site and coordinate contractor activities.
  • Conduct site walks and surveys to define scope and remediation plans.
  • Troubleshoot facility/utility issues and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Review drawings and specs to support maintenance and repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, safety expectations, and standards.
  • Collaborate with internal/external customers and present information clearly.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving to meet targets and implement improvements.

Job Description

AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA is seeking a Facilities Engineer to join the Facilities Engineering group. The Facilities Engineer will play an important role in ensuring safe, reliable, compliant, and efficient facility operations through effective technical support, problem‑solving, and collaboration with internal stakeholders and external vendors. This role will support day‑to‑day facility needs while contributing to the management of facility maintenance and the planning, coordination, and execution of facility improvement projects across a multi‑site campus that includes biomanufacturing, research, administrative, and warehouse environments. The position will also support small‑to‑medium‑size projects that sustain and improve site infrastructure and building systems. Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to work across multiple functional areas are essential to identify issues, coordinate solutions, and support timely completion of assigned work. The role will involve site walks, field assessments, drawing review, vendor coordination, and other activities needed to support ongoing facility operations and improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute small‑to‑medium‑size facility projects involving site infrastructure, utilities, building systems, and supporting equipment through the full project lifecycle, including scope management, scheduling, budgeting, and coordination with internal stakeholders and contractors.
  • Manage the work order lifecycle, including creation, planning, coordination, execution, documentation, and closeout in the CMMS system (Maximo) in accordance with company procedures.
  • Host vendors and contractors on site, support coordination of work, and ensure adherence to site standards and expectations.
  • Conduct site walks, field assessments, surveys, and investigations to define scope, identify issues, and verify field conditions; develop remediation plans and manage execution through work orders and vendors.
  • Assist in troubleshooting facility and utility‑related issues, coordinate corrective actions with internal teams and external vendors, and provide prompt response to reported facility issues.
  • Review drawings, sketches, specifications, and redlines to support maintenance, project, and repair activities.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, safety expectations, and compliance requirements.
  • Partner with a diverse customer base and deliver strong service; maintain effective working relationships with internal and external collaborators and communicate tactfully in oral, written, and presentation formats.
  • Demonstrate strong problem‑solving and analytical skills to meet departmental, site, and divisional targets and objectives.
  • Improve methods, designs, and processes by identifying and implementing innovative ideas and cost‑saving opportunities, developing practical solutions to problems.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science or a closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience with a minimum of 2+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience; additional post‑graduate education may contribute towards the desired years of experience.
  • Demonstrated competency within a discipline, with working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to work on moderate‑scope problems requiring analysis of situations or data and judgment within defined procedures.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, able to listen, understand, and articulate perspectives respectfully in oral, written, and presentation formats.
  • Works collaboratively with engineers in a fast‑paced, goal‑driven environment.
  • Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences.
  • Preferred technical background in health care, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, biologics, or similar industries.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade. Individual compensation within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location.

  • This job is eligible to participate in our short‑term incentive programs. Note: No amount of pay is considered to be wages or compensation until such amount is earned, vested, and determinable.
