Job summary

  • Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with PLCs preferred.
  • LEAN/Six Sigma knowledge is beneficial.

SUMMARY

SIFCO Industries, Inc., a premier publicly held supplier to the aerospace industry located in Cleveland, OH, seeks a qualified Facilities Engineer.

Reporting to the Maintenance and Facilities Manager, the Facilities Engineer plans and implements design of plants, offices, grounds, and major utility systems at SIFCO. Improves reliability of equipment, proposes, and manages capital projects, and implements maintenance system improvements. Primary focus areas include general facilities management, capital expenditure project management, environmental compliance, safety assurance, plant operating expense management, and utility management.

FACILITIES:
  • Assist Operations and EHS Management with environmental compliance monitoring, building codes, health, and safety corrective actions.
  • Conduct utilities and energy analysis and tracking for usage reduction, cost savings, and designing/implementing strategy for reductions
  • Responsible for heat treat and production furnace monitoring, improvement projects, and maintenance initiatives
  • Involved in the selection and management of third-party resources in responding to normal day to day work orders and emergencies.
  • Manage building automation systems, PLC control systems and SCADA collection software.
  • Promote safe work practices and demonstrate a zero tolerance for non-compliance with safe work practices, polices and regulations.
  • Partner with Quality, Process Engineering, and Operations to ensure equipment is meeting expectations and producing desired results.
  • Conduct regular facility infrastructure inspections and facilitate required repairs as necessary.
  • Manage and update all facility equipment drawings and building layouts.
  • Ensure compliance conformance with product/process performance to our QMS system.
  • Work with internal and/or external audit teams as needed for root cause analysis and QMS updates.
CAPITAL
  • Research and develop planned enhancements for future mechanical and electrical equipment acquisitions and stay abreast with new technology and procedures. Assist all departments in executing plans and projects for improvements, as well as monitor building systems, correct defective and inefficient operations through remedial maintenance.
  • Coordinate and follow up on preventative maintenance on boilers, presses, furnaces, hammers, plumbing, electrical, overhead doors, PLC, and any other major systems.
  • Provide project management, oversight, and implementation / vendor management for all new equipment or facilities capital expenditure projects.
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE - safety and environmental
  • Active member of the safety committee and emergency response team
  • Operate existing systems for fire detection and suppression, determine sources of troubles and correct them, and follow standard safety procedures in all work areas.
  • Handle hazardous materials, electrical circuits, solvents, refrigerants, cleaning supplies and chemicals in a manner that protects all personnel as well as properties in and around the facility
  • Conduct periodic audits of Safety, Environmental, Preventative Maintenance, and other systems to ensure compliance to internal and external requirements
  • In alignment with EHS management, instruct team in how to dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with established OSHA and EPA procedures.
  • Responsibility to ensure plant utility systems meet internal standards and external regulatory requirements
  • Work with EHS Manager to complete LOTO equipment inspections to ensure all procedures are accurate and updated.
  • Perform routine LOTO audits to ensure employees are following procedures in accordance with SIFCO's policies.
MAINTENANCE SYSTEMS AND PLANNING
  • Keep and maintain daily log reports, analyze equipment data, investigate deficiencies, and recommend steps to help solve problems and issues, and identify resources throughout the facility.
  • Work with the Maintenance Planning department to evaluate needs for all work requests—all notifications, scheduled, and unscheduled workorders —as well as any special projects that arise
  • Define requirements for internal and external preventive maintenance requirements in alignment with Total Productive Maintenance: operator inspection and verification, internal maintenance work orders, and vendor managed programs. Ensure all new equipment implementations are completed in alignment with TPM strategies.
TRAINING SKILLED TRADES
  • Conduct routine periodic performance audits of skilled trades personnel to confirm maintenance work orders are being completed in alignment with expectations
  • Develop and implement new hire checklists for millwrights, electricians, and combustion control technicians and conduct new maintenance program training initiatives in alignment with TPM strategies.
  • Develop standard for completing work orders, inspections, and equipment work instructions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position carries no direct supervisory responsibilities. However, indirect, project and program management skills are essential to success. Indirect leadership of skilled trades is expected, with occasional direct leadership responsibilities in alignment with training and capital expense project management, or backup supervision of the maintenance group.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • BS/BA (engineering discipline preferred) or equivalent work experience
  • Previous experience in manufacturing
  • Strong interpersonal skills and desire to learn
  • Ability to motivate people, particularly a production workforce
  • Previous electronics experience and /or experience troubleshooting PLCs preferred
  • LEAN Manufacturing concept implementation experience preferred
  • Exposure to Six Sigma variability analysis techniques preferred
  • Other or substitute qualifications as determined by the Operations Director
