JOB DESCRIPTION

Facilities and EHS Manager – This position will support the Structural Heart business and will be based in Caguas, Puerto Rico. On-site position.

This position will provide support to our Medical Devices/Structural Heart business. Our medical devices help more than 10,000 people have healthier hearts, improve quality of life for thousands of people living with chronic pain and movement disorders, and liberate more than 500,000 people with diabetes from routine needle sticks. The business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life through the design and provision of device and management solutions for the treatment of structural heart disease.

As the Facilities & EHS Manager you will be overseeing the Facilities and Maintenance and EHS Departments at the Abbott Structural Heart, Caguas, PR site. This role is responsible for maintenance programs of facilities critical systems, site utilities, housekeeping services, Pest Control program, EHS & Infirmary, and site Security.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop facilities policies and practices.
  • Oversee maintenance strategies to ensure optimum equipment uptime including preventive/predictive maintenance, equipment reliability analysis, equipment obsolescence determination.
  • Direct space allocations, moves, and facilities construction, modification and maintenance through intermediate managers.
  • Implement facilities policies and practices.
  • Hire, train, and motivate facilities staff and contractors.
  • Review and approve facilities-related contracts and vendor qualifications.
  • Develop and monitor facilities-related budgets.
  • Support all Divisional initiatives as identified by divisional management and support Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Hire and retain a diverse, highly qualified staff and provide ongoing performance feedback. Set goals that align with department plans and manage the execution of goals through coaching and mentoring.
  • Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and support QMS, EMS, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Comply with FDA regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.
  • Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Lead and supervise site EHS and Facilities department personnel to assure compliance of the plant with all applicable regulations and policies.
  • Interact with Abbott plants to ensure regulatory compliance and consistent effective EHS programs implementation.
  • Implement EHS programs and processes for an approximate 600-employee organization in alignment with divisional and corporate objectives, standards and metrics.
  • Responsible for successful completion of all regulatory EHS impacts within site operations.
  • Lead and implement applicable programs to assure an adequate Safety Program within site, in compliance with local and federal regulations such as OSHA, PROSHA, EPA, EQB, Division, etc.
  • Establish and manage the Hygiene plant program to comply with internal policies and procedures and regulatory agencies.
  • Facilitate the RCRA, Hazmat, HAZPOWER, DOT programs and training updates to the EHS Team and the Emergency Incident commander.
  • Responsible for waste minimization and recycling program compliance to assure compliance with regulations and Corporate Technical Standard.
  • Responsible for the operational compliance of environmental program such as RCRA, Air, Water, pollution prevention for the manufacturing facility.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Minimum of 6 years in an engineering or operational role. Previous facilities or maintenance management experience.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable US and non‑US regulations.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience selecting and managing vendors and contracts.
  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross‑division business unit model preferred. Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback, and improve business results.
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge of common office applications: Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Available to travel approximately 15%.
The base pay for this position is

$88,700.00 – $177,300.00 (in specific locations, the pay range may vary).
