Job summary

The City of New York's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a City Custodial Assistant to manage day-to-day custodial and maintenance operations across District Health Centers. You will direct custodial activities, respond to emergencies, and support the facility in the absence of the Facility Manager.

Location is citywide with potential reassignment; the role offers loan forgiveness eligibility, premium-free health insurance, a defined-benefit pension, and other benefits.

Qualifications

• There are no formal educational or experience requirements.
• There are certain medical and physical requirements.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, damp mop, and wet mop floors, toilets, corridors, lobbies and other assigned areas.
• Serve as Fire Safety Director; attend to FDNY citations for building violations.
• Order janitorial supplies.
• Empty waste baskets and dispose of refuse; vacuum rugs and carpets; replace bulbs and fuses.
• Perform high-dusting; polish furniture and metal work; maintain grounds and perform minor repairs.
